Claims made in the article below about the tax contribution of institutional investors in real estate in Ireland are incorrect. The taxation treatment of international pension funds investing here who are significant funders of new housing is exactly the same as applies to Irish pension funds investing abroad. The significant tax contribution of real estate funds was clearly demonstrated by IIP in research published in 2022 which has never been credibly challenged based on the hard facts underpinning our analysis which can be accessed here https://lnkd.in/e2kT2Bh9 Despite the headline, an issue not credibly addressed in the article at all is how an estimated 60,000 new homes annually will be funded? The new Programme for Government estimates €24 billion in development capital is required each year to deliver this output. The Department of Finance estimates that over 80% of this capital, or almost €18bn, must come from private sources. This requirement for private finance simply cannot be met without significant funding from institutional investors if we are to successfully and sustainably address the housing crisis.
