We are delighted to welcome Anne Geary Schmults to the NUA Surgical team in the role of VP of Commercial Strategy. Anne, who is based in Rhode Island, brings three decades of commercial medtech experience to our leadership team and is tasked with implementing the company’s commercial strategy in the US. Anne’s career spans across early stage start-ups and multinationals and she has extensive first-hand knowledge of bringing novel surgical devices to the obstetric market. Commenting on the appointment, CEO Barry Mc Cann stated “We are thrilled to be working with Anne and she joins the company at a very exciting time. It will be a busy few years as we build out our team and establish manufacturing in preparation to enter the US market. Anne’s knowledge of the US healthcare system and particularly in maternal health makes her the perfect fit for NUA!” In recent years, Anne was the Director of Business Development at Alydia Health (acquired by Organon), a company that commercialized the Jada device for the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage. Additionally in obstetrics, Anne served as VP of Commercialisation at Materna Medical, and as a Business Development Consultant at Safe Obstetric Systems (acquired by Cooper Surgical), a company that commercialized the Fetal Pillow. Prior to her focus on women’s health, Anne held senior sales positions with medtech giants including Stryker and Johnson & Johnson and was part of the commercial team of Kyphon (acquired by Medtronic) and Spine Tech (acquired by Sulzer Medica). She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the New England Medical Innovation Center Foundation. Speaking about her new role, Anne Geary Schmults said “I am excited to working with the top notch NUA Surgical team in efforts to reduce obstetric complications.”

Last night, our CEO Barry Mc Cann shared the stage with two of Ireland's top Medtech talents in Judi O' Malley of Spiorad Medical Limited and Deborah Toner of Veryan Medical as part of the 2024 #MedTechBrew in Galway. Ibec's Ciara Finlay chaired the session which was themed 'Choosing A Market To Launch', and each of the panellists shared their respective paths of identifying, engaging and penetrating their target markets. Each year, MedTech Brew is co-hosted by Irish Medtech and BioInnovate Ireland and, with a full capacity crowd, it continues to be an attractive networking and social event on the MedTech calendar for industry experts, investors, BioInnovate Fellows and alumni. Last night's event took place alongside the #GlobalAccess Conference which is Ireland’s largest and most comprehensive medical technology industry QA/RA conference. Congratulations to Ciara Finlay, Sinead Walsh, Emer Sherry for another great event and thank you for involving NUA!

Last Saturday, NUA SURGICAL were privileged to support a local girls sports team honour the memory of their beloved team mate. On 5th October 2024, the inaugural Ciara Bowden Memorial Tournament took place in Moycullen, Co Galway. Hosted by the Maigh Cuilinn U14 LGFA coaches and management, the memorial blitz was to commemorate a truly loved and missed teammate. Ciara’s mum Úna and younger sister Saoirse were also remembered on the day. The three members of the Bowden family tragically passed away in a car accident earlier this year, leaving a community in shock and in mourning. As a special mark of remembrance, the Maigh Cuilinn u14 team were presented with memorial kit comprising a bespoke crest with a tribute to Ciara & Saoirse Bowden. The kit was sponsored by local companies who have an affiliation with the club; NUA SURGICAL, CompanionQMS and Xeinadin Ireland. Our CEO, Barry Mc Cann is a member of the u14 coaching team and reflects on the company's involvement; "at such a young age, these girls have experienced extreme tragedy within their community and within their circle of friends. Being able to provide them with some kit to keep the memory of their friend alive was a tiny gesture that we were privileged to do".
