Happy Birthday EIRSAT-1! 🎉🛰️ One year in orbit and what a year it has been. Ireland's first satellite, built by a student-led team from University College Dublin in partnership with European Space Agency - ESA, was launched into space in December 2023. This historic moment took the nation forward to greater participation in the global space industry. In August 2024, EIRSAT-1 achieved a major milestone in its mission when its gamma-ray detector (GMOD) clearly detected two gamma-ray bursts from collapsing stars billions of lightyears away, contributing new scientific knowledge about the universe.💫💫 #EIRSAT1 UCD College of Science UCD EngArch School of Physics UCD UCD School of Computer Science UCD Mechanical and Materials Engineering Research Ireland Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Lorraine Hanlon
