VALPRO Path at Eima International 2024! 🌱 This month, our partner Agricolus S.r.l. represented the VALPRO Path project at EIMA International, one of Italy’s largest agricultural machinery expos held in Bologna. They presented a poster on drought experiments conducted in WP2, focusing on the drought response of grain legumes.🥜💛 The event attracted researchers, students, advisors, and policymakers, sparking over 200 positive discussions and feedback on our innovative approach! Here’s a summary: 📋 Workplan Overview: Dr Richard Lynch, Project Manager at Teagasc, presented an in-depth work plan for the next year, while Dušan Čenejac, Communications Manager from Foodscale Hub, reviewed past communication efforts and upcoming goals. 🔍 Decentralising Plant Protein Processing: Dr. prof Remigio Berruto, Associate Professor at the Università degli Studi di Torino, led a session on the VALPRO Path model for sustainable, decentralised processing. Ege Naz ÖZER, Operations Research and Logistics from Wageningen University & Research, showcased advancements in localised plant protein technologies aimed at building flexible supply chains. 💼 Business Case Workshops: Dr. prof Mladen Radisic, CEO of Foodscale Hub, and Tamara Glišić-Krivošija, Business Consultant from Foodscale Hub, hosted sessions on new business cases, covering: - Technologies for localised processing - Pulse flours in confectionery - Hermetic bagging system to enable cross-regional applications for plant proteins - Expanding Europe’s peanut industry 🍽️ Industry Insights: Hellenic Catering, Nuevo, and Joti, Greek companies, joined as special guests and highlighted plant-based innovations and ingredient advancements, wrapping up the day with a focus on protein applications in industry settings. 🚀 VALPRO Path Annual General Meeting - Day 1 Highlights! 🚀 Day 1 of the VALPRO Path AGM in #Athens kicked off with a welcome from Dr Magda Krokida, professor at the National Technical University of Athens and an agenda overview by Dr Ewen Mullins, head project coordinator of the VALPRO Path project and Head of Crop Science Department at Teagasc. Partners have presented key topics that included: 🌱 Ambitions Review: Dr Richard Lynch, project manager at Teagasc, outlined VALPRO Path’s mission to develop resilient plant protein systems, reaffirming the project’s key objectives. 🌾 Regional Crop Trials: Updates from crop trials across Europe, where partners shared two years' worth of data on yields, protein, and composition across Denmark, Germany, Italy, Ireland, and Portugal. 💡 New Protein Ingredients: Dr Alice Nongonierma, Principal Scientist Proteins from Kerry, introduced recent pilot trials focused on innovative plant protein ingredients with partners offering more detailed information. ♻️ Nutrient Tracking: Dr Mark Fenelon, Head of Food Programme at Teagasc, and partners shared Insights into advancing decision support tools, resource efficiency and nutrient flow in the plant protein value chain. 🌍 Environmental & Social Impact: Dr Tryfonas Kekes from NTUA presented findings from the Life Cycle Assessment for faba bean beverage development. The session kicked off with a presentation on VALERECO, an EU project that aims to develop an EU-wide legume ecosystem, exploring potential collaboration opportunities with VALPRO Path. 📢 Following this, Dr Ewen Mullins, the project coordinator, provided an overview on addressing ethics issues, emphasising partner responsibilities for reporting and management.
