Motherland welcomes the talented Yousef to our roster of directors. Yousef is an award-winning director celebrated for his unique ability to blend comedy, magical realism, and a touch of the absurd. Known for creating “wonderfully weird” commercials, promos and music videos, his work pushes the boundaries of visual storytelling, fusing surreal elements with everyday life in a way that feels fantastical but never over the top. Yousef has garnered industry-wide recognition for his distinct style. His standout campaign for BBC iPlayer, described as “uniquely odd,” received widespread acclaim, while his hallucinatory promo for Piero Pirupa’s "Braindead" won a Wood Pencil for Music Video: Concept at the 2021 D&AD Awards, and was shortlisted at the Young Director’s Award and UKMVAs. Yousef’s experimental edge extends to commercial work, with his Old Spice “Curls Are Cool” spot winning a 2022 Webby Award for Video. Beyond the screen, Yousef is also a skilled designer and art director, having crafted visuals for major-label album campaigns for artists like SG Lewis, Michael Kiwanuka, Dizzee Rascal, and Gregory Porter. Based in Manchester, UK, Yousef continues to make waves in the industry with his signature VFX-driven style, combining humor, surrealism, and striking visual effects in a way that captivates and intrigues audiences worldwide.
