  • A reminder to go easy on yourself today, on Little Christmas - even if your OOO gets switched off. ✉️ In the hustle of everyday life, it’s easy to forget the importance of pausing. Nollaig na mBan, or Little Christmas, is here as a gentle reminder to go easy on yourself. Take a moment to breathe, to rest, and to honor the work you do each and every day. Nollaig na mBan translates literally to "Women's Christmas," and it marks the end of the festive season, which traditionally began with Christmas Eve and lasted through the Twelve Days of Christmas. Historically, in many Irish homes, the festive duties—cooking, cleaning, hosting, and ensuring everything runs smoothly—typically fell to the women. Little Christmas became a symbolic day for women to take a break, as it was understood to be the day when the men of the household would take over the responsibilities, allowing women to relax, enjoy time with friends, and recharge after the busy holiday season. Happy Little Christmas to all the incredible women who make a difference, day in and day out. ✨

Did you know that mobile phones could help detect the health of a bridge? 🌉 Assistant Professor Jennifer Keenahan explains how sensors in mobile phones, like GPS and accelorometers, can help detect bridge health so they can last longer. With trucks and cargo getting heavier, new techniques needed to be developed to make bridges more efficient. In her courses, she tasks her students with model-making where they build their own bridge. Their designs are laser-cut and then tested using load machines and wind (with a hairdryer!) This tests students' understanding of the individual pieces that go into any structure. Learn more about our Civl Engineering courses here: https://lnkd.in/e3P2zgCn
