European Infrastructure Conference

After an extraordinary week for Ireland and for me I look forward today to catching up with family and friends at My Place in Midleton and other community facilities in East Cork, Ireland. To those that cannot speak up in this or other countries you are welcome here when it is safe for you to come. One sentence I heard a lot last week from wise people – Be Brave. To anyone in this country who feels things appear darker now there is light at the end of this tunnel. To those in this country that feel nobody is listening to them or that they can’t speak up. We have a General Election to look forward to as well as a special time of the year after that. For the first General Election in Ireland that I have been able to vote in for decades I have decided to make a call on what I would like to happen. I am supporting Mark Stanton to represent me, my family, and my communities in Dáil Éireann and at the Houses of the Oireachtas (Ireland’s parliament). I have complete confidence that Mark Stanton will make informed decisions in the best interests of all in Cork East and Ireland after consulting with leading experts and other voices. Mark has great friends and an inspiring family including David Stanton TD. The greatest politician I have ever met. There are other voices that Mark Stanton and David Stanton TD both listen to and because of that I have come to realise after my 40+ years in or around East Cork that it is those that they listen to that have been what have been keeping us all together in this community on all sides of the Bride and Blackwater, including the inspirational Mary Stanton. To any family, friends, neighbours, clients and or colleagues who have decided to tog out or bat for other teams in this election I look forward to raising a glass with you when this is over in a few short weeks. But my mark will be with Mark Stanton on 29 November 2024. As always my beautiful wife, to whom I owe so much, will decide for herself who she is voting for - because that is democracy. Hopefully, with the continued support of my public-private partnerships the European Infrastructure Conference and the Power & Energy Conference will both return in 2025 and P3s Over the Horizon will return in 2024. But for a few days I would like to catch up with people in my community and in my house, and at My Place* please.  Only after that will I be thinking about anything else. If you have the privilege of being able to do so - Please vote in the General Election on Friday 29 November 2024.

In 2023 the reality of what cities need to plan for swiftly spread across America. Cultural amenities and places to meet are now the primary reasons for millions of people to visit, live, or work in or near a city. Commuters and office workers are no longer the primary factors in infrastructure planning. Another engaging European Infrastructure Conference, key message for me was the need to significantly ramp up our pipeline beyond the projects we currently have going towards delivery.
