When it comes to women’s intimate wellness and health silence (by the algorithm) is NOT golden! For the past month, LinkedIn has blocked Aquafit Intimate (company) and my personal profile page (Varda Messer) flagged as spam and illicit content. Since our market launch in 2021 we have consistently posted content focused solely on women’s health, vaginal health, sexual health, intimate wellness, self care and our family of patented Intimate Gel Stick products. An erroneous flagging of an image in our World Menopause Day post, as nudity, triggered an algorithmic spiral. We repeatedly appealed, and our accounts were eventually reinstated. Following is an abbreviated recap of LinkedIn’s chronology of wrongful restriction. 17/10/2024: Aquafit Intimate posted about World Menopause Day. 18/10/2024: We contacted LinkedIn about our post being flagged and audience-restricted. 23/10/2024: LinkedIn apologized for their algorithm's mistaken flagging of post image as nudity: “I appreciate your concern regarding your post, which does not contain any nudity. However, please understand that the issue stems from our algorithm. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced during this process…I encourage you to review this policy and, if you wish, to repost your content while ensuring it aligns with our guidelines.” 28/10/2024: Reposting with a new approved video led to another restriction, likely due to algorithmic flagging of previously flagged content. 30/10/24, 8/11/24, 15/11/24: LinkedIn upheld the restrictions, deeming our content unprofessional. “LinkedIn has reviewed your request to appeal the restriction placed on your account and will be maintaining our original decision. This means that access to the account will remain restricted. We require all members to engage in a professional manner and this type of content is not allowed.” “This type of content” is a new level of doublespeak. Additionally LinkedIn reached out across all our private communications asking: “If the content in this message is unwanted or harmful, please report it to us. We won’t notify the sender.” 21/11/2024 Our accounts were reinstated, but several posts on Endometriosis, Postpartum Recovery, and Vaginal Dysbiosis were retroactively removed from our feed, deemed "illegal products and services." These posts share a common theme: algorithmic flagging of depictions of women's bodies, conditions and even microbiology, mistaken for sexual or pornographic content. This brave new world impacts how we communicate on matters central to all women and Aquafit Intimate’s mission. Why do women spend an average of $110 on monthly beauty and fitness, but remain silent when it comes to intimate wellness—a crucial aspect of our well-being, fertility, immunity, and pleasure?
