Innovating for a Safer World: The Winners of the 2024 GCSP Prize for Innovation in Global Security The 2024 GCSP Prize for Innovation in Global Security celebrated three cutting-edge projects that were chosen from 161 entries. These transformative initiatives, recognized at the virtual award ceremony on 21 November, offer hope for addressing critical global security challenges. 🥇 First place: "HeroBee" submitted by Ms Ichrak eddor Mnijli from Tunisia. This project wins a cash prize of CHF 10,000. 🥈 Second place: "Ripeness Theory 2.0" submitted by Keren Winter Dinur and Shawn Guttman of Didi.ai in Israel. This project wins a certificate of recognition. 🥉Third place: "Tracking Geopolitical Conflict Over Water Situation Using RIFFAI: Ultra Precise AI Remote Sensing" submitted by Ms Pinkeo Khemkhamphoumee and Mr Kolatat Phaiboonnukulkij of RIFFAI in Laos. Had a great week at Slush! This was my first time and I'm very happy that I came with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and ImpactCity Dutch at Slush group. So much nicer coming to these conferences with people who you know and want to support your vision. All-in-all I'm excited about the leads I was able to generate for Didi.ai: met with 5 angel investors at Slush and there are another 6 who didn't come, but we've already connected. Also able to expand my network, meet other CEOs who are wrestling with similar dilemmas and had a lot of fun along the way :) And the best part? I was finally able to meet Mikaeli Langinvainio, CEO of Inclus! After a bunch of zoom meetings, it was great to meet face-to-face, have a tasty dinner and talk about how PeaceTech can help the world. Thanks Miki! Once again, wanted to say thanks to Caspar Toetenel and Marie-Jeannine Citroen for their help preparing for Slush. And thanks to Michiel Poppink who serendipitously invited himself into an Uber ride with one of the investors I met with and talked me up wonderfully!

My week at Slush has started! Fun opening event for the Dutch Netherlands Enterprise Agency & ImpactCity mission to Slush and now it's time to get to work! Have meetings set with potential investors, clients and tech people, not to mention great sessions at the conference. Very much looking to this week and talking about Didi.ai. Time to head to Ambassador Govert Jan Bijl de Vroe's residence for a session on impact investment :)

While defence tech has become the hot topic among venture capitalists, a lesser-known sector has quietly struggled to gain similar support and attention: peace tech. Peace tech refers to technology that promotes peace, resolves conflicts, prevents violence, and fosters reconciliation, from local disputes to large-scale international conflicts. However, it faces challenges in profitability, unclear business models, tech capacity disparities (hardware, talent, connectivity), privacy concerns, and complex coordination with governments and organizations. These factors make it more suited for nonprofits and organizations than private ventures, limiting private financing. Still, some startups are emerging in the space. Venture capitalist Shane Ray Martin has estimated the PeaceTech market could grow to $100 billion. Typical peace tech applications include: 💬 Platforms for conflict resolution and dialogue - Didi.ai, Change.org 🚨 Early warning tools for violence or human rights violations - Violence & Impacts Early-Warning System (VIEWS), ExTrac 📚 Apps promoting peace education - Build Up ^, Peace IQ 📊 Crowdsourcing data to guide peace building - Remesh, Pollicy 🤖 AI tools monitoring hate speech, misinformation, and extremism - Gerulata Technologies, CulturePulse Beyond dual-use tech, “triple-use” tech adds peace applications to commercial and defense activities e.g. Hala Systems, Inc., Clearview AI. For example: technologies like AI and social media have the ability to both exacerbate violence and facilitate peace hence must be used and monitored carefully. New Blog Post: How Artificial Intelligence Can Support Peace On September 20th, 2024, Kluz Ventures hosted the annual Kluz Prize for PeaceTech Award Ceremony which brought together technology entrepreneurs, peacebuilders, funders, and other experts to celebrate innovative uses of technology for peace. When implemented responsibly, artificial intelligence (AI) was featured as a way to foster peace, prevent violence, and rebuild societies after a conflict. This was echoed at the New York University (NYU) Peace Research and Education Program (PREP) and Becera event on September 19th on practical AI applications for good. This blog features a series of case studies outlining the possible positive applications of AI before, during and after a conflict, drawing on the insights and examples mentioned at both events.
