With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Devika Waney Mokhtarzadeh, our beloved friend and long-standing partner from The Savitri Waney Charitable Trust. For more than a decade, Devika led the Trust, based in the UK, as a steadfast partner of Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital. Through thick and thin, and despite our imperfections, her unwavering commitment and belief in our mission have laid a strong foundation for growth. Devika and the Waney family's support has helped build a care model that delivers quality healthcare at scale in low-resource settings, ensuring that rural communities, especially those at the last mile, receive proper care. The Trust has been instrumental in supporting eye surgeries and played a vital role in building an eye hospital in Purnea. To this day, they continue to support Akhand Jyoti's blindness elimination programme, providing free cataract surgeries to the marginalised. Devika was more than a partner to us — she was family. Her legacy of compassion and generosity will continue to inspire us all.
