The launch of “Beyond fish curries – A celebration of Bihar’s traditional fish recipes” marked a significant step toward preserving and promoting Bihar’s culinary heritage. The recipe book was launched by JEEViKA CEO Himanshu Sharma, Martien van Nieuwkoop, Director of Agriculture Development, BMGF, and representatives from the BMGF and MSC teams. This book highlights locally sourced fish-based recipes from Bihar’s communities with the support of women fisheries producer groups (WFPGs). It showcases nutritious dishes made with small fish, such as nutrient-rich fish powder. A blend of tradition and nutrition, the book aspires to make fish a part of everyday diets while empowering communities under the JSPVAT Fisheries program. In the face of alarming poverty rates, partnerships that focus on scalable, evidence-based programs are critical. Alongside The World Bank, we facilitated a recent visit between the Government of #Ethiopia and the Government of #Bihar, India, to learn more about the government-led Graduation program, #SJY. SJY has reached more than 185,000 households - nearly 1 million people - to date, with plans to reach millions more. The delegation from Ethiopia was able to meet with JEEVIKA, Rural Development Department, Government of Bihar to have rich discussions with implementing staff, program participants, and community members. The visit showcased the unique potential of collaborating across #governments, #civilsociety, and multilateral institutions to prioritize those furthest behind: https://bit.ly/4eqmjs1

🎉 We're excited to announce the successful conclusion of our FRAME project (Fostering Resilience in Agriculture through MRV Experimentation) in Bihar, India! Together with JEEVIKA, Rural Development Department, Government of Bihar, Tata-Cornell Institute for Agriculture and Nutrition , Environmental Defense Fund, and FAIR Forward, we reached over 300k farmers to enhance #climate resilience through sustainable practices and worked with over 24,000 farmers on data-driven decision-making. Key highlights: 🔑 92% early rice transplantation in 2023 🔑 Optimized nitrogen use for wheat and rice farmers 🔑 #AI-driven yield predictions via the Zindi Africa challenge The project also developed a scalable data collection model for JEEViKA’s frontline workers, integrating digital tools and geofencing, and empowered farmers with personalized climate-smart advice through Farmer Scorecards. We learned that while machine learning models show great promise, further validation with larger datasets is key for wider application. Co-funded by FAIR Forward (a project of Indo-German Development Cooperation, this project has set the stage for our upcoming Zero Hunger Zero Carbon Project, which will expand into livestock management and regenerative energy practices.
