🥁 Thank you to SOMO for publishing the CSDDD Datahub! The tool’s search function allows you to explore EU and non-EU companies within the scope of the #CSDDD. The map highlighting non-EU countries is particularly enlightening (though SOMO notes that data for these companies may not be 100% accurate; see screenshot) The CSDDD will apply to 7,000 companies belonging to 4,300 corporate groups, with implementation rolled out in three phases: 31% of companies in 2027, 18% in 2028, and 51% in 2029. Plenty of time to prepare. Of course to note, that the CSDDD will impact indirectly also those companies that are in the supply chain of the in-scope company. https://lnkd.in/dTHkpK5h

An ongoing engagement platform for South Asian biz to interact with stakeholders to understand & explore opp. in B&HR
About us
There has been a paradigm shift in the global Business and Human Rights (BHR) framework. While States are tightening regulations and policies on human rights due diligence, investors are eyeing it as a decisive factor for investments. Given the increasing momentum on the subject, it is imperative to create space for businesses to engage with stakeholders and understand the evolving policy landscape, expectations and opportunities around BHR. An initiative of Centre for Responsible Business (CRB), Business & Human Rights Network aims to simplify BHR concepts, identify opportunities, encourage BHR uptake, and thereby make businesses more competitive and resilient.

A snapshot of what is to come!
Professor and Associate Dean at Copenhagen Business School I focused on ESG and corporate sustainability
Lots of things happening in 2025 and beyond on sustainability and ESG regulation. If you are interested in the EU Green Deal regulations, keep your eyes on... ➡️ ...the EU's "Competitiveness Compass" which is delayed slightly (it was due on 15 Jan). This Compass is key for the Green Deal regulations as it sets out the broader “economic doctrine for the next five years", as Commission Executive Vice President Stéphane Séjourné recently put it (https://lnkd.in/dQTAB4T7). ➡️ ... the proposed "Clean Industrial Deal" (planned for 26 February). Together with the Competitiveness Compass, this new Deal will set the context for many of the EU's sustainability actions in the next five years. In essence, this new framework will merge sustainability and competitiveness concerns, as argued for by the Draghi Report in 2024. ➡️ ... the planned "Omnibus Simplification Package", with a proposal likely by 26 February. The omnibus is supposed to amend key EU regulations with the aim to reduce firms' reporting requirements (e.g., related to #CSRD and the #EUTaxonomy). The Commission will publish its 2025 Work Programm on 11 February. This Programme will give further clues on where the journey goes. Thanks to ESG Book for the great overview of other key deadlines... #esg, #sustainability, #eugreendeal

The governments who are introducing #supplychain #duediligence rules for companies are themselves major supply chain actors spending trillions of dollars in #publicprocurement. In our new OECD report “Responsible Business Due Diligence and Government Procurement” we run the numbers on the 52 governments that adhere to the OECDs standards on #responsiblebusinessconduct: ➡️ In 2021, these 52 governments spent more than USD 8.3 trillion on public procurement ➡️ Of this total spend, USD 6 trillion (or 73%) was by countries that now have some form of due diligence regulation applicable to public institutions – either through disclosure rules, mandatory due diligence, or product and market-based measures. ➡️ USD 3.4 trillion (41%) was spent by countries that have specific due diligence requirements for public institutions ➡️ USD 2.6 trillion (32%) was spent by countries that have general due diligence requirements, which also implicitly apply to public institutions. This implies that emerging due diligence regulation can play a significant role in aligning public spending with sustainability goals - and that governments are prepared to #leadbyexample. Unleashing Potential: Women in Workforce and Leadership Roles Business & Human Rights Network recently marked International Human Rights Day with an engaging web talk titled ‘Unleashing Potential: Women in Workforce and Leadership Roles’ in partnership with Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom South Asia and Centre for Responsible Business. The event featured valuable insights from industry leaders, including Vibha Kothari, DEI Manager at Zomato; Pritha Dutt, Chairperson of the Centre for Gender Equality & Inclusive Leadership (CGEIL), XLRI; Jesselina Rana, UN Advisor at CIVICUS; and Devyani Hari, Senior Director, CRB. The session was moderated by Shubham Trivedi, CRB and opened by Chelsia R., CRB. Discussions highlighted the critical need for organizational structures that support women’s leadership and the vital role of female role models across various sectors, including gig work. However, significant barriers persist, such as cultural norms, family responsibilities, and limited workplace support. Key takeaways from the discussion included: 🔹 Women make up only 27% of the workforce, with 19% in managerial roles and 15% in C-suite positions. 🔹 While sectors like education and administration lead in female participation, industries such as manufacturing and construction still exhibit considerable gaps. 🔹 The informal sector, which comprises 90% of South Asia's workforce, presents unique challenges but also offers opportunities for inclusive growth through targeted interventions. 🔹 There is a pressing need for laws to be examined from a women-centric perspective to ensure they effectively support female empowerment rather than merely including women in existing frameworks. 🔹 Growing conversations around the care economy highlight the significant contributions of women in this sector, necessitating legal recognition and support. 🔹To drive inclusivity forward at a faster pace, it is essential to articulate a clear business case for diversity. This includes ensuring that all roles are evaluated in a gender-neutral manner and that all role models are celebrated. Why does this matter? 🌍 Research indicates that empowering women generates ripple effects that positively impact families, communities, and economies. Organizations that successfully foster gender equality take intentional steps—implementing policies, building capacity, and creating inclusive environments. For example: ✔️ Organizations are integrating gender equality into performance metrics. ✔️ Rural models are establishing safe spaces for women while respecting socio-cultural contexts. ✔️ Companies are reframing maternity policies as opportunities rather than setbacks by investing in health, education, and childcare. #Genderequality is more than a workplace goal; it’s a #humanrights imperative. #GenderEquality #WomenInLeadership #WorkforceParticipation #HumanRights #Sustainability

Today we concluded an action packed two-day conference in #Bengaluru with over 70 suppliers, brands and senior experts on Business & Human Rights! The purpose was to understand the building blocks of #ethical and #responsiblepartnerships in #FMCGsupplychains, exchange good practices and identify opportunities to meaningfully collaborate. We also deliberated the role of Indian suppliers in paving the way for resilient and competitive #globalsupplychains in the FMCG sector. The conference entailed panel discussions, workshops and engaging sessions on key topics under #BusinessHumanRights, like #responsiblesourcing, #responsiblerecruitment and #grievanceredressalmechanisms. We thank our project partners, AIM-Progress and Quizrr, the experts who joined our panel, the brands that joined in person, and the suppliers who brought the conference alive with their energy and insights.
