To promote a rights-based, gendered, and eco-sustainable approach

About us

Centre for World Solidarity (CWS) emerged from ‘United Action Service for World Solidarity’ (ASW), a Berlin based charitable organization. Its India Office, initiated in 1957, was located in Gandhigram, Tamil Nadu. In 1982, the ASW India Office was shifted to Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh. In 1992, through consultation and concurrence of ASW Berlin, the ASW India team and Indian partners, ASW India was transformed into an independent Indian entity as Centre for World Solidarity (CWS), a registered Trust in Secunderabad, united Andhra Pradesh. The Trust Deed of CWS stipulates that the membership of the Board should consist of only resident Indians, a majority always being women. CWS supports and partners with grassroots NGOs, Networks and Fellows in different kinds of outreach work that fit into its programmatic focus. CWS strives to capacitate and support its partners in their development work through a transparent and accountable methodology that always keeps at centre stage the aspirations of marginalized people in India. The VISION of CWS is the “emergence of an equitable society of small communities where all those deprived of basic human rights, especially women, Dalits, Adivasis and minorities, live with dignity”. A society that is vibrant with the consciousness of both rights and duties, free from violence and committed to eco-friendly development. The Mission of CWS is to promote a rights-based, gendered, and eco-sustainable approach that will advance people-centred governance, livelihoods, and management of natural resources. This will be achieved through partnering, nurturing, and collaborating with Voluntary Organisations and other stakeholders at all levels. CWS management practice aims at ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability at all levels. CWS is an organization that first and foremost promotes Human Dignity with a special focus on equity, non-violence, secularism, and transparency.

During one such intervention, we came across Seengo Hembram, who was severely anemic with a hemoglobin level of just 6.5. While we were already working with her to address anemia, Seengo became pregnant. This made our intervention even more critical as anemia during pregnancy poses serious risks to both mother and baby. We intensified our efforts, counseling Seengo and her family about proper nutrition and anemia management. We also provided continuous monitoring and guidance, along with simple dietary changes and home-based remedies. Our Volunteer sister Churamani also played a vital role in ensuring Seengo followed through with her nutritional plan. Over time, with consistent care and support, Seengo’s health improved significantly. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 2.700 kilograms. 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲: • Seengo’s hemoglobin level has improved to 9.5. • Her weight is now 34.3 kg. • Her son, now 6 months old, weighs a healthy 7.8 kg. This story reflects just one of the many lives transformed through our ongoing Poshan Camps and interventions. With the right guidance, consistent efforts, and family support, healthier futures are possible. 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐖𝐒-𝐋𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐡𝐨𝐣𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 We are thrilled to share that 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐫, one of the leading newspapers, has covered the incredible journey of reviving 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐡𝐨𝐣𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞, an indigenous and nearly forgotten rice variety, through the efforts led by 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐂𝐖𝐒) and Kolhan's women farmers. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐡𝐨𝐣𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥? • Known for its high nutritional value, minimal water requirement, and pesticide-free cultivation. • Once a staple in Kolhan during the 1970s, it had almost disappeared due to the rise of hybrid varieties. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬: • Over 300 farmers are now cultivating this traditional variety under the Annapurna Mahila Dheki Utpadak Samuh. • Electrically powered Dhenki machines, introduced with the help of IIT Kharagpur, have made rice processing efficient and boosted incomes for women farmers. • At the Saras Mela in Ranchi, Balibhojana rice was a crowd favorite, selling at ₹120/kg, with its rich nutritional profile drawing significant attention. The success of this initiative is a testament to the power of traditional farming practices and the resilience of women farmers. Check out the full story in Prabhat Khabar’s coverage (https://lnkd.in/g2jWMEbj). 🌿🐐 Empowering Rural Livelihoods Through Animal Health Camps! 🐐🌿 Our Jharkhand Resource Centre (JRC) recently organized a series of Animal Health Camps across various villages, focusing on improving the well-being of goats and supporting sustainable rural livelihoods. 🏡 These camps provided a platform for: ✅ Veterinary Check-ups: Offering timely diagnosis and treatment for common goat health issues. ✅ Vaccination and Deworming: Preventing diseases and ensuring healthier livestock. ✅ Awareness Sessions: Educating farmers on improved goat-rearing practices, nutrition, and disease prevention. Through these initiatives, we aim to strengthen the rural economy by empowering smallholder farmers with the knowledge and tools to maintain the health of their livestock, which serves as a vital source of income and nutrition. 🎉 Impact Highlights: • Over 650 goats were treated and vaccinated. • Benefitted more than 150 farmers across 5 villages. • Fostered community discussions on sustainable livestock management. A huge thanks to the teams, local communities, and volunteers who made these camps a success. Together, we’re making strides toward a more resilient and equitable rural economy! Let’s continue to champion rural empowerment and animal health. 🐾💚 #AnimalHealthCamp #GoatFarming #RuralEmpowerment #CentreForWorldSolidarity #SustainableLivelihoods MONIMOY SINHA | Rajesh Kumar Jha | Palash Bhusan Chatterjee | BALAKRUSHNA PANDA | Dr.Srisailam Maheswara | Abhishek Kumar | Anindita Moitra | Pallavi Sharma | DEBABRATA MAHATO | Debasish Dutta
