DoMS IIT Kanpur warmly welcome you to an engaging talk by Dr. Badri Narayanan Gopalakrishnan, PhD, a Non-Resident Fellow of the NITI Aayog - Government of India, on the topic 'Modeling the nexus between decarbonization and global value chains'. Globally, most countries have hard and soft commitments to reduce emissions in the next few years. While this is an arduous task in itself, with a decade of experience after the Paris Agreement, it may be noted that hardly any country has succeeded even in reducing emissions since then. Nevertheless, many countries are coming up with detailed plans to net zero pathways. The implications of these on the global and national economies as well as the trade-offs and opportunities offered by such pathways to the poorer countries in the world have not been explored yet in the literature. A related and interesting issue to explore is the impact of such plans on Global Value Chains. This talk is a step towards filling this gap in the literature by looking at South East Asia and Africa, in a global multi-country multi-sectoral computable General equilibrium framework. With vast experience as an economist working to analyse a wide range of economic (mainly international trade), disruptive technology, environmental/energy, labour and public health policies, Dr. Gopalakrishnan brings a world of insights into the domain.
