🔬 Glucose Limitation: A New Mechanism in Cancer Cell Survival 🔬 Cancer cells adapt to nutrient-scarce environments, using low glucose levels to protect themselves from chemotherapy-induced apoptosis. Research shows that reduced glucose helps cancer cells avoid the effects of pyrimidine biosynthesis inhibition by: Preserving pyrimidine nucleotide availability, which delays replication fork stalling. Suppressing apoptosis, preventing caspase-9 activation and mitochondrial death signals. These findings suggest that glucose limitation in tumors could reduce chemotherapy effectiveness, highlighting the need to consider tumor nutrient environments when designing cancer treatments.
