  • Unveiling a Novel Multidrug-Resistant Fish Pathogen with PacBio HiFi Sequencing A groundbreaking study led by Dr. Basanta Kumar Das (CIFRI) has identified a novel pathogenic and multidrug-resistant strain of Kytococcus sedentarius in Labeo rohita (rohu fish). This bacterium, part of the Micrococcales order, has a genome size of 2.59 Mb, 71.7% GC content, and carries 2,173 antimicrobial resistance genes, raising serious concerns about antibiotic resistance in aquaculture. Using HiFi sequencing, the genome was assembled into a single contig, providing a complete, high-accuracy representation of the entire chromosome. This achievement underscores the power of long-read sequencing in generating high-quality pathogen genomes, essential for disease management and antimicrobial resistance studies. Nucleome Informatics Pvt Ltd is proud to support this cutting-edge research, which strengthens genomic surveillance, pathogen detection, and sustainable aquaculture practices.
