GAIL (India) Limited is delighted to share that our Floating CNG station at Varanasi received an Award during the Water Transversality Award and Conclave held on 5th and 6th December 2024 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi in association with UN ESCAP, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Power and Ministry of Jal Shakti. The Award was presented by the Hon'ble Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Dr. Raj Bhushan Choudhary to Shri H K Garg, Executive Director (CGD), GAIL, and Shri Sushil Kumar, General Manager and In-charge (Varanasi CGD), GAIL. GAIL received the Award for the valuable contribution and commitment towards advancing sustainable solutions for a better future for the unique Floating CNG Project at Namo Ghat, Varanasi, and the Floating Mobile Refuelling Unit at Ravidas Ghat, which provides continuous availability of cleaner and environment-friendly fuel 'CNG' to the Boats at Holy River Ganga, Varanasi. The Floating CNG Project commissioned in the year 2021 is a one-of-a-kind project and the World’s First Floating CNG project which adds another Milestone in GAIL’s journey towards a sustainable future. *GAIL’s SCADA Network* It is a well-known saying that ‘you can’t control what you can’t measure’. This is precisely what SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system is meant to achieve for a huge and complex natural gas pipeline network. It brings the real-time pipeline hydraulics data at the convenience of desktop in a control room setup and provides the flexibility to control these parameters remotely using field devices so as to enable delivery of gas to consumers safely and efficiently. This very importance of SCADA for a pipeline network makes it a ‘Critical Information Infrastructure (CII)’. In today’s times, SCADA systems are increasingly becoming centralized to fetch company wide data at a single location and facilitate integration with company’s ERP systems for daily accounting and invoicing almost instantly or at a desired frequency thus enhancing overall organizational efficiency. GAIL’s centralised SCADA (C-SCADA) system gets the data from numerous field devices & sensors and aggregates in one central database, making it easier to analyse trends, detect abnormalities, generate alerts, create customized reports and improving overall decision making. The system allows enhanced data analysis and reporting of the pipeline key performance indicators. It provides better insights and a holistic view of the operations, helping operators identify issues that might not be evident from isolated local systems. GAIL pioneered to implement India’s first Centralized SCADA for its vast pipeline network almost a decade ago. The latest and state-of-the-art C-SCADA system has helped in better pipeline hydraulics monitoring, accurate gas reconciliation & improving transparency. It is almost unimaginable to operate a complex pipeline network without SCADA. This enhanced dependence on SCADA brings added responsibilities and a need to create adequate redundancy to ensure continuity of operation during disruption. It also requires protection from cyber threats and other vulnerabilities. Accordingly, GAIL is determined to implement Govt. of India’s NCIIPC and CERT-In guidelines to secure this critical information infrastructure and deliver gas to our consumers without any interruption.
