iHED – International Higher Education Dialogue Conference 2024 is live! The conference organized by DAAD India in cooperation with the Association Of Indian Universities brings together the community of professionals in the field of internationalization in India and representatives of German higher education institutions. The panel on Women as Leaders in Accelerating Energy Transition: Challenges & Opportunities happened on day 2 of the #REINVEST2024 Summit. Moderated by Dipa Singh Bagai, Country Head, NRDC India, the panelists included: 1.⁠ ⁠Susan Jane Ferguson, Country Representative, UN Women 2.⁠ ⁠Preeti Bajaj, CEO & MD, Luminous Power Technologies (P) Ltd 3.⁠ ⁠Dr Harish Hande, Co-Founder SELCO Foundation A Keynote address was delivered by H.E. Svenja Schulze, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany. Key Areas of Focus discussed : Intersection of Energy, Economy, and Gender Equality: The session emphasized the need to meet growing energy demands while addressing global decarbonization and social inequality, particularly gender inequality. Prioritizing a transition that includes feminist development policy was highlighted as a key strategy. Empowering #WomeninRE: With energy being a core topic in German development cooperation across 31 partner countries, the session stressed the importance of strengthening the rights, resources, and representation of women in the renewable energy sector. India Leading the Way: India has made significant strides in drawing young women into the renewable energy field, a feat that other countries, including Germany, are still working towards. Efforts like the Indo-German skill program aim to bring more women into green jobs. Opportunities in India’s Renewable Energy Targets: With India targeting 500 GW of installed renewable capacity, there exists a unique opportunity for large-scale investments, policy implementation, and entrepreneurship, providing equal opportunities across the sector. Addressing Barriers and Inclusivity: The session highlighted that many current innovations are not women-centric. Solar energy, however, has the potential to equalize this imbalance. Additionally, policies, investments, and solutions are needed to tackle barriers such as child care and the inclusivity of vernacular-speaking populations. IREDA Ltd.
