ShareChat, launched in January 2015, addresses this gap by offering a social networking platform tailored for Indian users, facilitating cultural expression in fifteen languages including Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Gujarati. In this week’s #FounderFriday, learn how Ankush Sachdeva launched ShareChat and tapped into a large yet uncatered audience in India to provide entertainment and facilitate meaningful connections. 📱 ShareChat emerged to empower local audiences to express themselves in their native languages, amplifying voices previously unheard on a broader scale. 🛜 Initially built as a content-sharing app for WhatsApp, ShareChat quickly pivoted to cater to local audiences, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, gaining traction after discovering a keen interest in Sachin Tendulkar and cricket-related content. ▶️ Following the TikTok ban in 2020, ShareChat parent company Mohalla Tech Pvt Ltd developed Moj app, a short-form video app that offers diverse categories like dance, travel, and education, with durations ranging from 15 seconds to one minute. Available in 16 languages including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and English, Moj enables users to download videos and engage with content seamlessly. 🌱 ShareChat's growth highlights as of March 2024 include a 32+ million creator community, 31 minutes average time spent on the platform, over 2.5 billion shares per month, 75+ billion pieces of content generated, and 180 million monthly active users.
