MANAGE Inaugurated a two-week Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (#ITEC) Training program on “Application of ICTs in Agriculture” scheduled on December 04-17, 2024. Total 24 participants from 13 countries Viz. Mauritius, South Sudan, Ghana, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Lesotho, Iraq, Tajikistan and Bangladesh are participating in the program. In his inaugural address, Dr. Saravanan Raj, Director (Agricultural Extension), MANAGE, outlined the evolution of ICT in India and its impact on agriculture and rural development. He emphasized how government initiatives like mKisan SMS Portal, Kisan Call Centre, and the National Digital Mission are empowering farmers. He further shed light on how technologies are enhancing accessibility and empowerment for farmers, enabling activities like selling cattle from distant locations and efficiently managing agricultural businesses. Dr. G. Bhaskar, Assistant Director (IT), highlighted modern ICT developments in India, such as mKisaan,IoT, ChatGPT, the VISTAAR platform, and discussed their impact on the agriculture and rural development sector. The program focuses on sharing experiences and analysing gaps in ICT infrastructure, usage, and capacity in agriculture. Key activities include exploring digital agriculture and platforms like VISTAAR, IoT-based crop advisory models, and the role of AI in climate-smart farming. The program also covers grassroots ICT initiatives, digital extension tools, and market linkages for farmers. Participants will visit to T-Hub, T-Works, PJTSAU Drone Academy, INCOIS, ICRISAT, CRIDA, and NFDB, to enrich their experience. At the end of Program participants will prepare a Back at Work Plan to implement their learnings in their respective countries. Dr. K.
