Last week, our team had a productive planning day, and we are excited for this year’s upcoming activities and look forward to a continued expansion of our research and innovation partnerships with India. This week, we have Energimyndigheten (SEA) team in India for the ITP-Steel Stakeholders Meeting. We welcome our close ties to SEA and look forward to continuing to collaborate with them on G2G initiatives and projects alongside Team Sweden. In the spring, we are excited for the pilot visit by Tillväxtverket and Swedish regions, where new regional-state collaborations between India and Sweden will be explored. With it still being early months of 2025, we look with enthusiasm towards the upcoming year as it promises fruitful collaborations with old and new partners. Budget 2025–26: A Major Boost for Science and Innovation We are excited to see that the budget is focusing on research and innovation with allocations of ₹20,000 crore [GS1] (~24,953,800 SEK) and the integral role of the private sector. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Indian Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, defined the budget as a stride towards Viksit Bharat 2047. Key highlights from the budget include: - 10000 fellowships for technological research at Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Science. - Establishment of Fund of funds for Deep Tech Startups - Nuclear Energy Mission, targeting 100GW by 2047, and an outlay of ₹20,000 crore for R&D of Small Modular Reactors. We are thrilled that the COMBAT project has been granted funding from the EU's Horizon Europe programme. The research project focuses on preventing, and treating dengue fever and is co-funded by Department of Biotechnology and coordinated by Karolinska Institutet, with participation from Swedish partners Lund University and Olink Proteomics. The COMBAT consortium unites participants and partners from 15 countries, including Sweden, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Italy, Guatemala, India, and the United States. Dengue fever affects 100 million people annually and the COMBAT initiative uses advanced technologies to improve dengue prevention and treatment. Key innovations include super-resolution microscopy for studying virus-host interactions, brain-on-chip models for neuropathogenesis research, and multi-omics for identifying early biomarkers of severe dengue. It also involves AI and machine learning for predicting severe cases, developing scalable antiviral strategies, and drug repurposing with nanoscale imaging to enhance pandemic preparedness. This interdisciplinary approach sets new standards in research against viral epidemics. Together, we are making strides towards a healthier, dengue-free world! https://lnkd.in/dsJ2gkVP

As the year ends, we want to thank everyone we have collaborated with. Sweden and India have a strong bilateral S&T relationship, and this year has been no exception. We have had several ministerial visits from Sweden to India, including the Swedish Foreign Minister and State Secretaries. Our collaboration with Nordic partners, including Norway, Denmark, and Finland, as part of the India-Nordic Battery Energy and Storage Technology project, was a key achievement. We co-developed this project to bring the best of Nordic academia and business to explore synergies with India. We have hosted several delegations including start-ups within the space industry, and research groups within life science, social science, humanities and business. We co-led and steered the innovation pillar with India DST under the Industry Transition Partnership, LeadIT 2.0, continuing to play a key role in the S&T bilateral relationship by designing and delivering a range of activities and exploring new areas of cooperation. And a special mention to our Defence Attaché (also in the picture) who did quite a few appearances in photos with us this year. We are now looking forward to 2025 and wish you all a wonderful holiday season!
