Fewer complaints does not mean fewer incidents; the truth is that people are not complaining. They don't feel safe to raise voices for their own safety. . . It was great to hear from Rina Sharma ji (COO, Parwarish Cares Foundation) in the thought-provoking workshop on "Building Trust on Campus: PoSH insights for Academia" organized by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Delhi Technological University Delhi & the Department of Electrical Engineering. Why does one tolerate Abuse? -- Fear of loosing job -- Fear of Social Stigma -- Once a child experiences abuse in childhood, they feel that this happens to everyone, which makes them think to keep tolerating it in adulthood also. Why does one abuse others? -- They had experienced abuse in their childhood, so they feel that they should also make someone feel the same thing. This then becomes part of their 'Param Ananad'. ♦️ Bring your tolerance level back to zero and stand up for a change because Safety and protection are personal to each one of us. ♦️ Everyone has differing lines of tolerance. Know the actions that come under sexual harassment. ♦️ Sexual harrasment is not limited to women. It can happen with anyone!!! 🌑 Brutal Case of Bhanwari Devi - Her legal battle birthed India’s sexual harassment protection laws for women, which form the backbone of the Supreme Court’s landmark 1997 #VishakaGuidelines for workplaces. Yet, her case has not resulted in convictions. Bhanwari Devi fought for girl-child education, women’s safety, and the end of harmful practices like child marriage and female infanticide. In 1992, her defiance of local customs led to a horrific crime - 5 upper-caste men gang-raped Bhanwari in retaliation for her stance against child marriage. But she refused to give up. Despite the obstacles, she fought for justice. Bhanwari Devi's legacy extends far beyond. She has inspired countless individuals, particularly women from marginalized communities, to fight for their rights and challenge societal injustices. #SexualHarassment #ICC #PoSH
