  • The Supreme Court redirected a plea for mandatory POSH compliance by political parties to the Election Commission of India (ECI), recognising it as the authority under the Representation of People Act. 1. 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: Many political parties lack an Internal Committee (IC), leading to inconsistent adherence to the POSH Act’s workplace safety requirements. 2. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀: Without standardised grievance mechanisms, women’s safety and inclusivity in political spaces are significantly compromised. 3. 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸: The plea highlighted that existing laws cover all workplaces and aggrieved women, including those in political environments through local committees. 4. 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The petition emphasised the need for standardised Internal Committee across all political parties to effectively address and report sexual harassment cases.   • The Supreme Court has directed that 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗛 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟯𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱. Highlighting gaps in private sector participation on the SheBox portal, the Court called for immediate action to strengthen POSH implementation. To address this, it issued clear instructions: appoint District Officers and form Local Complaints Committees (LCCs) by early 2025, assign nodal officers at local levels, and ensure details are uploaded on SheBox.   • 𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗦𝗔: 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗛 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 The Supreme Court of India has called for 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗛 𝗔𝗰𝘁 across all states and institutions to uphold women's workplace rights. The event, themed "𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲: 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀", featured an insightful panel discussion on "𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆: 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲". It was a privilege for our founder, Anusha to share the stage with distinguished co-panelists 𝗗𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗮 𝗡𝗝𝗣 (IPS Officer) and 𝗗𝗿 𝗣𝗟 𝗝𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗶 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗱𝘆 (ICFAI Law School), moderated by 𝗗𝗿 𝗦. 𝗩𝗶𝗷𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗶 (Registrar, IFHE). Together, we explored critical ways to redefine and ensure safety for women in all spaces. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱: - Current gaps in workplace policies for women’s safety - Challenges from a law enforcement perspective regarding women's safety at work 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱: - Overview of various Acts (POSH, UGC, AICTE) aimed at creating safe work environments for women in higher educational institutions. - The responsibility of organizations to proactively build safer workplaces through prevention and prohibition mechanisms, rather than just resolving complaints. - The necessity of creating Safe Spaces at work that uphold women's rights to livelihood reflects the intent behind the POSH Act. - Identifying gaps in awareness, execution capabilities, and audits related to the POSH Act. - The importance of ensuring that everyone is aware of their rights. - Initiatives by Telangana police aimed at enhancing women's safety both inside and outside the workplace.
