At Sauce, we have started a ‘Pay it Forward Series’ where we connect successful founders from our portfolio and ecosystem to share their insights with the next generation of entrepreneurs. We hosted another session with select Sauce portfolio founders, featuring Arindam Paul, Chief Business Officer and founding member of Atomberg Technologies . He shared valuable lessons from Atomberg's journey and highlighted the importance of a clear offline strategy, and the tactical dos and donts. He also talked about the value of hands-on leadership from his learnings from Atomberg's early journey, how they motivated sales teams while keeping fixed costs low. He emphasized that maintaining strong product quality, a solid brand presence, and adapting to market changes are key to long-term success in offline markets. Arindam Paul is one of the most articulate leader in the Indian consumer brands space. He is extremely generous with his advise and during the session he was very on point and practical with his recommendations. We have talked often of a generational fatigue in brands for the young consumers in India. There is no place where it is more evident than fashion and accessories. You will rarely come across someone in the metro or your office who wears or carries the large fashion brands of the previous decade, as the new generation of consumers doesn't connect with them or find them aspirational. There have been some exciting brands built in this space in the fast fashion and streetwear category, but one space where we notice a very large and clear gap is in the premium quiet luxury space. Sanya and Adit identified this gap, while in New York, and returned to India to build Cove & Lane. From the very first meeting in our office where Sanya and Adit set up a rack in our meeting room to present the brand and collection they want to build, with very detailed understanding and presentation of the fabric, weave and fit, and a story behind each piece, we were impressed with the passion and indulgent attention to detail. As a consumer and investor both, really excited to partner with them on the journey to build an exciting lifestyle brand thats equally in place in the boardroom and the bar. It took a bucket load of unlearning for two 40 something year old corporate fools (Mantosh Roy and me) to get all the ducks lined up. On the way we had some stellar help from Sheetal Sudhir; got more stellar help with Vandana Verma joining us full time. As dad to a teen, I have always been intrigued by their world. When Mantosh first spoke to us about their decision making process in the world of beauty that he had witnessed during his days running retail at Nykaa, it was evident this was a consumer with very unique needs, psychologically and physiologically.
