Another Feather in the Cap: SHIKSHA Initiative was awarded the Education Excellence Award at the World Environment Summit 2024! This incredible honour, collected by our Director Robin Sarkar, recognises our unwavering commitment towards transforming education through innovation and technology. Over the years, the Shiksha Initiative has: 1. Reached 2,00,000 students 2. Across 1,640 villages 3. Empowered 1,11,000 adult learners 4. Reached 17 Jails *Data set from Uttar Pradesh Because of the combined approach of digital content with traditional teaching methods, there has been a 70 % boost in literacy rates in our Intervention areas. Her Dreams, Our Mission: Menstruation shouldn’t be a reason for girls to stop dreaming, learning, or achieving their potential. Yet, for millions of girls in India, the stigma and myths surrounding it often led to poor hygiene practices, health issues, and even dropping out of school. As part of our mission to promote literacy and equity, we’re tackling these barriers by organising a ‘Train the Trainer’ program with government school teachers, to create a ripple effect of change. Together, we: • Explained the science behind menstruation. • Dispelled harmful myths and misconceptions. • Taught proper hygiene practices and disposal methods. • Encouraged open conversations in classrooms. We worked together to end the taboo, because every girl deserves a future where outdated taboos do not limit education, dignity, and opportunity. While many of us take literacy for granted, millions across the globe, including in India, cannot still read or write. Literacy isn’t just about reading words—it’s the foundation for progress, unlocking potential, providing second chances, and paving the way for a better future. Driven by this belief, the SHIKSHA Plus Jail Intervention was launched, and it’s already making a significant impact. Operating across 16 jails. This transformative program has changed the lives of over 1700 inmates. Literacy within these walls goes beyond education, fostering freedom of thought and self-belief. Knowledge becomes the key to breaking cycles of incarceration and rebuilding lives with dignity and purpose. We’re proving that transformation begins with education.
