Our recent poll on “What is leadership?” resulted in more than 50% believing that leadership is a way of life. Let us take a look at what does this really mean… When people believe that leadership is positional power & only those with fancy titles are & can be leaders, they miss out on the opportunity of being leaders in any given situation. Imagine this: A chaotic Monday morning at a busy intersection where traffic lights have failed. Horns blare, tempers rise, and nothing moves—until an ordinary passerby steps in. They calmly direct traffic, restoring order. No uniform, no badge, no reward—just a person responding to a need with presence and accountability. That’s leadership. Not the kind that comes with a title or an office door with your name on it, but the kind that comes from within. It’s stepping up when the moment calls for it, with no expectation of reward. Leadership as a way of life shows up in everyday acts of awareness and authenticity. Maybe it’s when a colleague steps in to mediate a tense conversation at work. Or when a friend notices you’re having a tough day and chooses to truly listen, offering support without judgment. It’s the sibling who sparks laughter in a moment of tension. These people aren’t “trying” to lead—they’re just being present, aligned, and attuned to the needs of the moment. If we shift focus from our phones and ourselves and look around mindfully, you will be amazed to see many inspiring incidents of everyday people engaging in selfless, authentic, good for others acts – without even being aware of the fact that – they are living leadership as a way of life. For those with the “well-being of the whole” in their DNA, leadership naturally becomes second nature. Most of us miss this, largely because of unconscious bias of what we have been told, heard, seen being applauded & appreciated. At Tatva, we believe leadership is living with purpose, acting from awareness, and offering yourself in service—not as a duty but as an expression of your highest self. This isn’t a skill to learn or a role to play. It is a dance between being and doing, a way of life that transcends time and circumstance. As we move into 2025, here’s a gentle nudge: Pause and look around. You might see countless acts of quiet leadership happening every day, from a stranger holding the door for someone to a teammate rallying everyone during crunch time. And here’s the kicker—you’re already a leader, too. It’s in the way you show up, in how you live, and in the energy, you bring to the world. Leadership isn’t something you find out there. About 150 incredible women leaders of Zydus Group across Ahmedabad, Baroda, Goa, and Mumbai participated in a 10-month-long intervention called WINGS.
