On Thursday, The Convergence Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha Government to focus on #job creation and productive #employment opportunities in the state. The MoU aims to provide strategic support for the successful implementation of various development policies and programs of the Government of #Odisha. These initiatives will contribute to the state’s employment generation strategy, create a favourable environment for job opportunities in the #manufacturing and services sectors, increase agricultural productivity, improve livelihoods, and promote #sustainable employment for #women. The legend of Sisyphus from Greek mythology is widely known. The gods condemned Sisyphus to roll a massive boulder up a hill for eternity, only for it to roll back down each time he neared the top. India’s #policy challenges, particularly in #education and #employment, often seem like a Sisyphean struggle. Progress is made, yet the summit remains elusive. For instance, while we have achieved a near 100% Gross Enrollment Rate across primary age groups of 3-10 years, #learning outcomes continue to be a major concern. However, unlike Sisyphus's fate of eternal futility, #India's efforts are yielding tangible results. #ASER2024 highlights a remarkable recovery from Covid-19 induced learning loss. The #ASER2024 results show a significant acceleration in India's early #learning progress. After years of slow, incremental gains, we now see a dramatic improvement—not just post-COVID but even compared to pre-pandemic levels. All credit goes to the #government for this progress. #NEP2020 prioritised Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (#FLN), and the #NIPUNBharat Mission turned it into a national movement. States have embraced this with structured pedagogy, delivering tangible results. The results of the Annual Status of Education Report (#ASER) offer a glimmer of hope. For the first time in years, foundational learning outcomes — especially in Grade III — show positive trends across Indian states. This progress is no accident. It reflects a focused effort by the Indian #government to prioritise quality #education. During the recent Republic Day celebrations, education was front and centre. In the parade of tableaux, we saw symbolic reminders of India’s commitment to nation-building through education. The National Education Policy (#NEP) set the stage for these achievements by emphasising the importance of foundational literacy and numeracy (#FLN). But the real hero behind this success story is the NIPUN Bharat Mission.
