Many in society believe that corporal punishment is a necessary part of discipline, a way to 'toughen' children or correct their behaviour. But what we often fail to see is the lasting harm it causes breaking trust, instilling fear, and impacting a child's mental health and emotional well-being. What society needs to understand is that hitting a child doesn't teach respect or responsibility it teaches fear, shame, and silence. True discipline comes from connection, understanding, and guiding children with love and care. Maarna Nahi Hai Solution (Stop Hitting Children), a thought-provoking film by Ummeed Child Development Center and Much Much Spectrum, challenges these outdated beliefs and sheds light on the urgent need to protect children from violence. Now available on Developmental Disabilities India YouTube Channel, this film is a call to action for everyone — parents, educators, caregivers, and society at large to create a world where discipline is rooted in compassion, not punishment. Watch the film, reflect, and share — because every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment to thrive. Together, we can stop the cycle of violence. #Ummeed #corporalpunishment #saynotohitting #compassion

55 kilometers by foot. A physically demanding journey for a cause that was shared with me by my good buddy, Rukesh Patel. A cause that I gave a lot of thought to before committing. I’m walking this distance to raise funds for Ummeed Child Development Center, an organization dedicated to the unique needs of children with disabilities. As I prepare for this challenge, I’ve been reflecting on how this walk parallels another journey I’m presently, deeply immersed in but which is only now emerging from semi-stealth - 7th Gen Ventures. I have a lot of time and respect for all startup founders, who embark on their long marches into the unknown with no guarantees, but with purpose and belief. The challenges are especially stiffer in the climate tech arena. Whether it’s supporting children with disabilities or empowering climate-focused entrepreneurs, these journeys are fueled by a shared hope for a better future. Another parallel that I must draw from my ongoing entrepreneurial journey is that of support from the network - friends, family, peers and partners. Impact is rarely achieved alone. It takes a village, a community. With that in mind, if you feel inspired by Ummeed’s mission, I would humbly invite you to contribute to this incredible organization. Every donation brings them closer to transforming the lives of children with disabilities and their families. Like most entrepreneurial ventures, this walk is going to be a test of endurance, resilience, and conviction - at least for me! Just a word before I share the link. While Ketto has graciously waived off their platform fees for this campaign, they do add a tip of 18% by default, which you can dial down to zero or another amount before your kind donation. Here’s the link to learn more and donate. https://lnkd.in/gcSfAweb Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for your support—whether through a donation, a kind word, or sharing this message. Together, we can take meaningful steps toward positive change. #WalkForACause #SocialImpact #Entrepreneurship #ClimateTech #SupportChildren

This Friday, Sonali Saini (Sol's ARC), Shamin Mehrotra (Ummeed Child Development Center) and I (Shikha Institute of Education) got a chance to share our thoughts about the future of teaching and the practicality of 'inclusion' in this vision. I appreciate Sheetal Murudkar from The Akanksha Foundation for hosting this and bringing inclusivity into the conversation. Most schools tend to treat inclusion like it is optional, it is not! As a result, many children with special needs do not enrol in school, and of those who do, only 9% complete secondary education. Schools (especially the high fee ones) should no longer have the option of saying 'we're not equipped' and start actively figuring out ways to begin inclusive practices. Second, inclusion is often thought of as a favour, it is not. Designing for the margins automatically cater to everyone in between. For example, subtitles in videos help the hearing impaired, but they also help those learning a second language, increases overall attention, helps students catch keywords and stats, helps account for bad audio systems or insufficient volume, and has many other use cases to make learning more effective. Inclusion needs to be thought of in ways that improve the overall learning experience for everyone in the classroom, do comment or dm meaningful inclusive practices that you have encountered.
