Air Pollution Is Stealing Our Sight—And It’s Time We Take Notice. As air pollution continues to worsen, its impact on our health extends far beyond the lungs. Founder-Director of Why Waste Wednesdays Foundation and an experienced ophthalmologist, Dr. Ruby Makhija, shares her insights on the alarming rise in eye conditions linked to polluted air. From children to adults, no one is immune to the harmful effects of toxic air, and eye health is increasingly becoming a major concern. With years of experience treating patients, Dr. Makhija has observed a significant increase in eye problems during periods of poor air quality. From adults to small children, no one is immune to the devastating effects of toxic air. 🔎 Key highlights of the video: 1️⃣ How air pollution affects your eyes – Understanding the link between polluted air and eye health. 2️⃣ Recognizing the symptoms – Redness, dryness, itching, tearing, and the potential for long-term damage. 3️⃣ Vulnerable groups – Why even children are increasingly presenting with eye problems. 4️⃣ What can be done – Practical solutions and measures to tackle this issue: - Individual Level: Steps to protect your eyes from pollution. - Community Level: Raising awareness and encouraging collective action. - Policy Level: Why systemic changes and stricter air quality regulations are essential. As air pollution continues to escalate, its harmful effects extend far beyond what meets the eye. Eye health is a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of this crisis. It’s time we recognize the link between clean air and overall well-being and work together to demand urgent action for cleaner air. Clean air is a right, not a privilege. Protect your vision. Protect your future. 📢 Let’s take collective action—watch, comment and share this video to spread awareness about the impact of air pollution on eyesight. 🔔 Follow us to stay informed and empowered. Attending INC-5 in Busan was quite an insightful experience, especially as a first-time participant for us at Why Waste Wednesdays Foundation. Nearly 4,000 delegates and observers from 178 nations gathered to discuss solutions to the global plastic pollution crisis. While the treaty could not be finalized, the discussions reflected a collective willingness to address this pressing issue. It was an honor to meet His Excellency Ambassador Luis V. Valdivieso, the distinguished Chair of the INC, along with other dignitaries, inspiring individuals, exhibitors and organizations working tirelessly in this space. The side events provided valuable insights into innovative approaches and collaborative efforts. The experience reinforced my belief that there are no shortcuts to behavior change—it is the ultimate solution. Prioritizing Reduce and Reuse, alongside developing a robust segregation and collection system, is essential to making recycling truly effective. Documenting and sharing best practices from across the globe can significantly contribute to scaling impactful solutions. India has made significant progress with its Plastic Waste Management (PWM) guidelines and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework. With stronger enforcement and innovative behavior change initiatives, we have the potential to create meaningful, lasting impact. Grateful to Sameer Joshi PhD♻️ sir for his insights and support Though challenges remain, the dialogue at INC-5 offers hope that global collaboration can lead us towards a more sustainable and plastic-free future. Why Waste Wednesdays Foundation assures to keep giving its best for the cause.
