Somatish Banerji, Partner at Circular Apparel Innovation Factory (CAIF), an Intellecap initiative, had the opportunity to discuss our flagship "Closing the Loop on Textile Waste" program with Goa's Hon'ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, during his visit to Sampurn(e)arth Environment Solutions Pvt. Ltd.’s Material Recovery Facility. Mr Banerji took this opportunity to convey the larger vision of the program- to close the loop on textile waste by creating a pan-India network of hyperlocal textile recovery facilities operated with deep engagement with the waste worker community, to recover post-consumer textile waste and reclaim value out of it. This visit highlighted the significant work being done in Goa, one of the 10 geographies where our circular #textilewaste management model is being scaled. Here, we are working alongside our implementation partner Sampurn(e)arth to reclaim value from post-consumer textile waste, and empower the women-led Self Help Groups of the state. As of now, we have diverted ~60 MT of post-consumer textile waste from going to landfills and impacted 40+ lives through capacity building and employment. Enabling #Decarbonisation for Tier 2 / Tier 3 suppliers in the T&A supply chain   As global brands continue to prioritize the reduction of Scope 3 emissions, it is essential to recognize that Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers—who account for 60-70% of the supply chain—are facing significant challenges. These include: 👉Limited technical capacity 👉Lack of awareness around low-carbon solutions, and 👉Barriers related to financing.   At Intellecap, we are committed to supporting the industry’s decarbonisation journey. To this end, Circular Apparel Innovation Factory (CAIF) recently launched a series of #SupplierDecarbonisation workshops.   The first event took place in Tirupur this November and brought together over 40 suppliers working with prominent brands such as H&M, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd., and Decathlon International.   The workshop aimed to deepen suppliers' understanding of decarbonisation and explore practical solutions.   🌟 Key Highlights from the Workshop:  ✔️Decarbonisation Priorities ✔️Practical Solutions for Emissions Reduction ✔️Innovative Solutions and Expert Guidance ✔️Roundtable Discussions and Networking   Key Areas to Address:  Support from Brands, Expertise Gaps, Biomass Challenges, Investment Concerns, Regulatory Understanding, Top Management Commitment   Despite these challenges, suppliers are optimistic, recognizing decarbonisation as an opportunity to innovate and future-proof their businesses. The First Textile Recovery Facility in Central India! Yes, you heard it right! 🎉 In June 2024, The Kabadiwala and Circular Apparel Innovation Factory (CAIF) partnered to close the loop on #textilewaste in Bhopal. For years, our community asked us to collect textiles along with plastic, metal, paper and e-waste. However, due to the lack of a textile recycling ecosystem, it wasn’t feasible—until now! In July, with CAIF's support, we added textiles as a recyclable category on The Kabadiwala App, making it easier for Bhopal residents to recycle their textile waste alongside other recyclables. This initiative not only diverts textiles from landfills but also empowers #safaisathis, scrap dealers, and women’s self-help groups by creating sustainable livelihoods and a stronger local recycling ecosystem. On October 9th, we had the pleasure of welcoming #PrachiSingh and Devanshu Ralhan from the CAIF team to our new facility, where they led training for women from marginalized communities on sorting and categorizing textile waste.
