Somatish Banerji, Partner at Circular Apparel Innovation Factory (CAIF), an Intellecap initiative, had the opportunity to discuss our flagship "Closing the Loop on Textile Waste" program with Goa's Hon'ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, during his visit to Sampurn(e)arth Environment Solutions Pvt. Ltd.’s Material Recovery Facility. Mr Banerji took this opportunity to convey the larger vision of the program- to close the loop on textile waste by creating a pan-India network of hyperlocal textile recovery facilities operated with deep engagement with the waste worker community, to recover post-consumer textile waste and reclaim value out of it. This visit highlighted the significant work being done in Goa, one of the 10 geographies where our circular #textilewaste management model is being scaled. Here, we are working alongside our implementation partner Sampurn(e)arth to reclaim value from post-consumer textile waste, and empower the women-led Self Help Groups of the state. As of now, we have diverted ~60 MT of post-consumer textile waste from going to landfills and impacted 40+ lives through capacity building and employment. We had the privilege of hosting Shri Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa at our Harvalem Material Recovery Facility on 10th December 2024, Inaugurated Material Recovery Facility Under Bisleri's Bottles for Change project. Mr. Debartha Banerjee, Co-Founder, Sampurn(e)arth took the honorable CM for a tour of the facility and explained its interventions for addressing the challenge of plastics and textile waste. The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at Harvalem, established by Sampurn(e)arth Environment Solutions Private Limited with support from Bisleri's Bottles for Change project, is a significant step toward efficient plastic waste management. The facility focuses on proper waste segregation, recycling, and community awareness, promoting environmental conservation and a circular economy. By involving local stakeholders, including SHGs, it aims to reduce pollution and create sustainable economic opportunities. Sampurn(e)arth, with support from Circular Apparel Innovation Factory (CAIF), an Intellecap initiative, is also implementing a Circular Textile Waste Management (CTWM) model in Goa as part of CAIF's flagship "Closing the Loop on Textile Waste" program. Mr. Debartha along with Mr. Somatish Banerji, Partner at Intellecap, explained to the honorable CM how the program is creating a pan-India network of hyperlocal textile recovery facilities to manage textile waste through deep engagement with local pickers and waste entrepreneurs and thereby establishing a local place-based circular economy. They showcased the significant work being done in Goa under the program, to recover and reclaim value from post-consumer textile waste while empowering waste pickers and women-led Self-Help Groups in the state, in effect accelerating local green job creation. Such conversations underscore the importance of collective action and the power of partnerships in shaping a more sustainable world.
