World’s Largest Literature Festival 30th January - 3rd February 2025
About us
The initial idea of hosting a festival in Jaipur began when John and Faith Singh from Anokhi visited us in Edinburgh and realised how much of the Festival was held in repurposed old churches, chapels, basements and homes, which in turn created value for built heritage in 2001. They approached us to help set up a festival in Jaipur which resulted in the creation of the annual Jaipur Viraasat Heritage Festival, within which Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple curated a literature segment. When the initial festival ran into some issues, we decided to focus solely on the literary aspect, giving birth to the Jaipur Literature Festival in 2008. Jaipur, with its rich cultural and literary history, was chosen as the festival's venue. The Festival quickly grew into one of the world's premier literary events, driven by the vision to bring together renowned thinkers, speakers, and writers from around the globe to encourage dialogue and cultural exchange. Celebrating its 17th edition in 2024, the Festival hosted over 550 speakers, featured numerous enriching sessions and performances, and drew a diverse audience, marking another successful year with over 25 million online viewers. 2025 will bring the 18th edition of the literary extravaganza in Jaipur to Hotel Clarks Amer - between 30th January - 3rd February, and celebrate books and ideas with characteristic flavour, substance and scale, bringing together writers, readers, connoisseurs, influencers, and thinkers.

Moving across millennia, Anthony Sattin's latest book, ‘Nomads,’ explores the transformative and often bloody relationship between settled and mobile societies. Many a time overlooked in history, the story of the umbilical connections between these two very different ways of living presents a radical new view of human civilisation. From the Neolithic Revolution to the twenty-first century, via the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, the great nomadic empires of the Arabs and Mongols, the Mughals and the development of the Silk Road, nomads have been a perpetual counterbalance to the empires created by the power of human cities. Connecting us to mythology and the records of antiquity, Sattin, in conversation with author and broadcaster Barnaby Rogerson, explains why we leave home and why we like to return again.
