AbstractAbstract
[en] High resolution neutron time of flight spectroscopy measurements were made for a sample enriched in 177Hf using the Columbia University Nevis synchrocyclotron. The measurements used the 202.05 m flight path for transmission measurements and the 39.37 m flight path for capture measurements. We obtain (E0, gGAMMA/subn/0) resonance parameters for 176 levels in 177Hf to 700 eV and 12 levels in 178Hf to 720 eV. We also obtained GAMMA/sub gamma/ values for 25 levels in 177Hf, giving < GAMMA/sub gamma/ > = 65 meV. The s wave strength function for 177Hf is found to be (2.70 plus-or-minus 0.25). Most s levels were detected to 100 eV, but many were missed above 100 eV. An analysis favors < D0> = (2.22 plus-or-minus 0.13) eV for the ''true'' s level spacing in 177Hf. The results to 100 eV are in reasonable agreement with predictions for statistical orthogonal population ensembles

AbstractAbstract
[en] Electric quadrupole interaction of 177Hf-probe in lutetium metal and lutetium iron garnet (LuIG) was determined by the PAC method. The quadrupole coupling constant eQVsup(eff)sub(zz)/h is 225+-65 MHz and 688+-53 MHz respectively. EQI in the latter case was found to be temperature independent in the range 78-1200 K. The origin and the magnitude of the electric field gradient in LuIG are discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] The structure and decay properties of high-K isomers in 176Hf have been studied using beam sweeping techniques and the Gammasphere multidetector array. A new ΔK=8 decay branch, from a Kπ=22-, six-quasiparticle, isomeric (t1/2=43μs) state at 4864 keV to the 20- state of a Kπ=14- band, has been identified. The reduced hindrance factor per degree of K forbiddenness for this decay is measured to be unusually low (fν=3.2), which suggests K mixing in the states involved. The deduced interaction matrix elements are discussed within the context of relevant K-mixing scenarios. The 3266-keV state, previously interpreted as a Kπ=16+ intrinsic state, is reassigned as the Jπ=16+ member of the band based on the Kπ=15+ state at 3080 keV. The systematics of fν values as a function of the degree of forbiddenness is discussed in light of this change.
