AbstractAbstract
[en] The capability of the RELAP5/MOD3 code to validate various transients encountered in RBMK reactor postulated accidents has been assessed. The assessment results include a loss of coolant accident at the inlet of the core pressure tube, the blockage of a pressure tube, and the pressure response of the core cavity to in core pressure tube ruptures. These assessments show that the RELAP5/MOD3 code can predict major phenomena during postulated accidents in the RBMK reactors

AbstractAbstract
[en] A researcher at MIT, while doing work for his Ph.D. thesis, has discovered that the radioactivity release at Chernobyl was greater than claimed by Soviet officials. He estimates that the release was >185 million curies, with more than 65% and 85% of the cesium and iodine being released from the core, respectively

AbstractAbstract
[en] The aim of the current work was to investigate the possibility to change and optimize the testing intervals of the Emergency Diesel Generators System (EDGS) at the Ignalina NPP in such a way that the safety level of the Ignalina NPP would not be decreased. The investigation of EDGS was performed applying the conservative measures related to system reliability. In order to estimate and minimize the reliability data uncertainty, the Bayesian updating approach was also investigated. As these measures and failure data are mainly related to EDGS unavailability, the system unavailability model has been developed and used for testing interval optimization. The approach, models and the obtained results can be used in the framework of the living probabilistic safety analysis and reliability data updating in order to minimize data uncertainty. Analysis of the results showed that the interval of testing the EDGS at the Ignalina NPP could be increased up to two months, as the average unavailability changes insignificantly and doesn't exceed the acceptable limit. AbstractAbstract
[en] The present number of Geologijos Akiraciai contains articles written by specialists who did the geological survey in the Drukshiai area and compiled various geological maps. The articles are written in a professional geological language; their objective is to present newest data for the specialists about geological conditions of the area at Lake Drukshiai and Ignalina NPP built on the bank of the Lake. Geological survey data confirmed the opinion that this area is not suitable for constructions and operation of such an energy giant as nuclear power plant. The geological survey done on a scale of 1:50000 gave the information about the structure of Earth entrails, that is very important in making a decision what to do with the Ignalina NPP and the nuclear power engineering in Lithuania in general
