AbstractAbstract
[en] Two parallel magnetic flux paths are provided in a dynamoelectric machine having a superconductive field winding. A first, or main, magnetic flux path includes at least one area of nonferromagnetic or diamagnetic material. A second, or shunt, magnetic flux path prevents the relatively low frequency ac flux present during starting or asynchronous operation of the machine, when used as an ac motor, from penetrating the superconductive winding

AbstractAbstract
[en] Describes induction motors having an outer squirrel-cage or slip-ring rotor driving the shaft, and an inner, free-running rotor with the function of compensating the reactive load of the stator. Investigates theoretically the suggestion that a superconducting inner rotor would also produce very high excitation, and enable the iron circuits to be dispensed with. (R.W.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] An induction motor structure for use on the outside of a superconducting rotor comprising a cylindrical shell of solid and laminated, magnetic iron with squirrel cage windings embedded in the outer circumference of said shell is described. The sections of the shell between the superconducting windings of the rotor are solid magnetic iron. The sections of the shell over the superconducting windings are made of laminations of magnetic iron. These laminations are parallel to the axis of the machine and are divided in halves with the laminations in each half oriented in diagonal opposition so that the intersection of the laminations forms a V. This structure presents a relatively high reluctance to leakage flux from the superconducting windings in the synchronous operating mode, while presenting a low reluctance path to the stator flux during asynchronous operation

AbstractAbstract
[en] The development of large turbogenerators with superconducting exciter winding has moved into the area of considerable economic interest. The advantages and problems of superconductance are discussed. The problems of cooling the cold rotor are especially considered in detail. At the same time, discussions concern what thermal losses are to be expected and what effects occur with respect to coolant flow, heat transmission as well as the change of state of coolant in a rotating system as a result of centrifugal and Coriolis forces. A listing is made as to what formulations are available for solution of these problems and what investigations are to be carried out before a reliable design of a superconducting rotor can result

AbstractAbstract
[en] Transient processes in a chain of coupled resonators in the case of switching a HF-generator and a beam are investigated using the method of eigenfunction. Optimum time for the beam retention relatively to the moment of generator switching is found in the case of superconducting (SC) secton. The concept of electron quality factor is analyzed. It is shown that the π/2 oscillation type is characterized by the process of field formation, analogous to the process in a long line. Numerical row summation is to be carried out to analyze the characteristics of the π-structure. Establishment time in a SC section is determined with a basic harmony

AbstractAbstract
[en] After about ten years of laboratory studies, superconductivity as applied to alternators is now entering an industrial phase. The problems thus posed are, of course technical in nature, but also, and of greater concern, economical and operational. Already existing programs are described and prospects of using cryoalternators in large electrical systems are examined while taking into account the difficulties involved in construction, the economical and energy conjecture, as well as the performances required by the eventual users. AbstractAbstract
[en] Superconducting d.c. machines have been under development for a number of years and it has become apparent that marine propulsion is an application where these machines may show a great advantage. This paper discusses the special features of the motors which allow them to achieve a performance which is beyond that of any other electrical machine. Special reference is made to ice breakers including a discussion on the power and control systems. The paper indicates a commentary on progress in this field and suggests the likely trends for the future. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The magnetic field of the stator winding is calculated during steady-state operation in its three dimensions taking into account the exact configuration of the winding (width of the conductors, radius of stator conductors, top/bottom layer, end windings). Magnetic and electric shields of the machine are cosidered in form of ideal boundarys. (orig.)
