AbstractAbstract
[en] The author studies the γ induced, two-step nuclide transitions X (A, Z) → Y*(A, Z + 1) → Y(A, Z + 2) between otherwise stable isotopes as predicted by Santilli via the use of relativistic hadronic mechanics and the reverse two step stimulated transition induced by electrons with threshold energy, where the isotopes Y*(A, Z + 1) are unstable. The author shows that the relative abundance of elements and their isotopes appears to confirm the above prediction. The author derives differential equations giving the present abundances in terms of their values at the geological formation of the Earth, intensities of γ and e-irradiation of each isotope in situ, cross sections, and rates of spontaneous double beta decay. It is proposed that these unknowns be determined from the data and that their overdetermination be used to evaluate the theories of induced and spontaneous double beta decay

AbstractAbstract
[en] Mildly mixed coupled models include massive ν's and CDM-DE coupling. We present new tests of their likelihood vs. recent data including WMAP7, confirming it to exceed ΛCDM, although at ∼2--σ's. We then show the impact on the physics of the dark components of ν-mass detection in 3H β-decay or 0νββ-decay experiments.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The analysis of recent results from solar and atmospheric neutrino experiments suggest next generation double-beta decay experiments sensitive to effective electron neutrino masses on the order of 0.05 eV could result in the direct observation of Ov double beta decay

AbstractAbstract
[en] The present trends in the study of nuclei far from stability are discussed. Examples of production methods for exotic nuclei and results from the studies of their radioactive decays will be given. These include the first observations of two new radioactive decay modes: beta-delayed two-neutron and beta-delayed three-neutron emission. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] We calculate supernova electron capture and β-decay rates for various pf-shell nuclei using large-scale shell-model techniques. We show that the centroid of the Gamow-Teller strength distribution was systematically misplaced in previous rate estimates. Our total electron capture rates are significantly smaller than currently adopted in core collapse calculations, while the total β-decay rates change less. Our calculation shows that for electron-to-baryon ratios, Ye=0.42-0.46, β-decay rates are larger than the competing electron capture rates. (c) (c) 2000. The American Astronomical Society
