AbstractAbstract
[en] Energy correlations between γ-ray transitions and the prompt proton decay line in 58Cu were studied by means of the fusion-evaporation reaction 40Ca(24Mg,1α1p1n) using the EUROBALL spectrometer coupled to ancillary detector devices. A lifetime of 0.06<τ<0.58 ps for the 8915 keV proton-decaying state in 58Cu is deduced

AbstractAbstract
[en] Shell-model calculations for 58Cu and 64Ge in the pf5/2g9/2 model space using a realistic interaction are reported and compared to those generated using an appropriately renormalized counterpart of the interaction in the truncated pf5/2 subspace. The results suggest that reliable computations can be performed in a space that does not explicitly include the intruder level so long as the interaction as well as the transition operators are renomalized appropriately

AbstractAbstract
[en] Nuclear binding energies have been calculated for sup(58-59)Ni and sup(58-59)Cu isotopes in a (2Psub(3/2), 1fsub(5/2), 2psub(1/2)) shell model space. We have obtained the effective two-body matrix elements from the modified surface delta interaction(MSDI). It is rather common in MSDI calculations to assume that the radial integrals are equal at the nuclear surface. In this paper we assume that radial integrals may be different according to the configurations of particles. With the value of the oscillator constant and the nuclear radius of 56Ni x=R/b approximatly2.4. The average deviation between 30 experimental and calculated energies is 0.146 MeV. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] In the framework of the theory of spectral distributions we perform an overall comparison of three modern realistic interactions, CD-Bonn, CD-Bonn+3terms, and GXPF1 in a broad range of nuclei in the upper fp shell and study their ability to account for the development of isovector pairing correlations and collective rotational motion in many-particle nuclear systems. Our findings reveal a close similarity between CD-Bonn and CD-Bonn+3terms, while both interactions possess features different from the ones of GXPF1. The GXPF1 interaction is used to determine the strength parameter of a quadrupole term that augments an isovector-pairing model interaction with Sp(4) dynamical symmetry, which in turn is shown to yield a reasonable agreement with the experimental low-lying energy spectra of 58Ni and 58Cu

AbstractAbstract
[en] We present a formalism to describe proton emission from odd-odd nuclei based on a scatteringlike approach. Special emphasis is given to the case of transitions between states with different deformations. As an example we estimate the proton half-life of the odd-odd nucleus 58Cu . Our calculations show that the change of deformation in the decay process has a significant influence on the half life. In addition, the angular momentum coupling of proton and neutron orbitals can result in an additional K hindrance of the decay. To fully account for the observed half life in 58Cu , we propose shape mixing of the final state

AbstractAbstract
[en] The 58Ni(p, n)58Cu reaction has been studied at 120 MeV and 160 MeV incident energies. States in 58Cu with Gamow-Teller (GT) strength, identified by its L=0 angular distribution, have been observed up to an excitation energy of approx.=14 MeV. The excitation of a broad resonance at approx.=9 MeV excitation is identified as the main T=1 component of the GT strength in 58Cu. Comparison with shell model calculations sugin an f-p model space indicates that the GT strength cannot be clearly resolved in terms of its T=0,1 and 2 components. We find that the sum of the experimentally observed GT strength is approx.=55% of the theoretically predicted value. Comparison is made with published M1 results from the 58Ni(e, e') reaction. AbstractAbstract
[en] Well deformed and superdeformed rotational structures in the second well of nuclei near doubly-magic 56Ni were recently identified by means of heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions. Some of these bands were found to decay by prompt particle emission in competition to the expected decay via γ radiation. Subsequently, dedicated experiments were performed to investigate this exotic decay mode in more detail. First results from these studies are reported

AbstractAbstract
[en] With Wigner's SU(4) supermultiplet symmetry [and its generalization to pseudo-SU(4)] as a starting point, a boson-model space is constructed that includes T = 0 as well as T = 1 bosons (IBM-4). The boson Hamiltonian is derived microscopically from a realistic shell-model interaction through a mapping that relies on the existence of approximate shell-model symmetries. Applications are presented for odd-odd N = Z nuclei from 2958Cu29 to 3570Br35. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The β-NMR study of short-lived nucleus "5"8Cu (I"π=1"+, T_1_/_2=3.2 s) has been performed. Spin polarization of "5"8Cu induced by the charge exchange reaction of "5"8Ni was observed in Si at 15 K and the "5"8Cu magnetic moment |μ["5"8Cu]|=(0.46±0.03)μ_N was deduced. The present result shows that the "5"8Cu nucleus is promising as a new nuclear probe for the microscopic study of Cu impurities in Si. (author)
