AbstractAbstract
[en] This article deals with the study of nuclei with relativistic electrons of about 500 MeV. From experiments, in which the electron exchanges a photon of very short wavelength with the nucleus it has turned out that the 'classical' picture of the nucleus as a bound system of only protons and neutrons is incomplete. In a number of cases the presence of non-nucleonic degrees of freedom, in the form of meson fields, are manifest. Futhermore the question has arisen in how far protons and neutrons in the nucleus differ in shape and dimensions from free nucleons. Starting form the classical picture (only nucleonic degrees of freedom), the structure of the nucleus including the aspects which are related to specifically new degrees of freedom, are outlined. In this outline the experimental results, obtained with the electron-scattering set-up of NIKHEF-K, are used. (author). 19 refs.; 13 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] A technique recently developed for inelastic electron proton scattering is applied for inelastic electron pion scattering. It is found that all the derivatives of off-shell form factor of pion near s = msub(π)sup(2) and for large Q2 are bounded from above, provided that the dispersion relation for the form factor requires no more than one subtraction. The elastic pion form factor is bounded by [lnQ2]sup(c)/Q2, where c is any positive constant. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Elastic electron deuteron scattering has been measured at the Bonn 2.5 GeV-Electron-Synchrotron in a coincidence experiment using two magnetic spectrometers. Data were taken at q2=0.6 and 1.3 (GeV/c2) at Θe=77.50 and 1390 to separate the magnetic dipole form factor from the electric form factor. Experimental cross sections are compared with theoretical predictions and with measurements of other laboratories. The results indicate that contributions from meson exchange currents are not neglible in this q2 region. (orig./HP)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors discuss the results obtained by G.T. Adylov et al. (1977) and E.P. Dally et al. (1977) from pion-electron scattering at small angles. The authors show that the pion charge radii obtained in that work are incorrect because they are incompatible with world-averaged values of the rho meson mass and the coupling constant ratio fsub(rhoππ)/fsub(rho). [en] It is shown that the relation β = eta(Z1Z2)/sup 1/2/ exp/broken bracket/ -X(Z1 + Z2)R/broken bracket//R can be derived by assuming that the effective potential in π-electron systems can be approximated by a three-dimensional square well form. (U.S.)
