AbstractAbstract
[en] A Geant4 application has been developed to simulate the gamma spectrum of a BEGe detector. The summation effects were encompassed for both random and true coincidences through a time-based approach. The application well reproduces the typical spectral features such as full energy peaks, escape peaks, summation peaks and Compton/backscatter continuum. The simulated gamma response is consistent with empirical data within 3%, while simulations of the X-ray and baseline regions are valid within a 10% deviation.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The relationship J(mean) = (1 - β)S + βsub(c)Jsub(c) common to most supersonic radiative transfer theories, is given a detailed interpretation in terms of atomic rates and probabilities. It is also generalized to cases where Isub(c) depends on angle. The nature of the escape process and the expressions for the escape probability β are clarified. (Auth.)

[en] The basic properties of Ge(Li) detectors are given, their detection efficiency and methods of determining detection efficiency are described. The dependence of detection efficiency of two coaxial Ge(Li) detectors (13 cm3 and 45 cm3) on the energy of gamma radiation within an energy region of 60 keV to 1836 keV is given. (J.P.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A description is given of a computer code which automatically analyses gamma-ray spectra obtained with Ge(Li) detectors. The program contains features as automatic peak location and fitting, determination of peak energies and intensities, nuclide identification and calculation of masses and errors. Finally the results obtained with our computer code for a lunar sample are reported and briefly discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] Single-escape, double-escape, and annihilation peak widths from eleven spectra taken with differing HPGe coaxial detectors and differing primary gamma sources were measured. For each of these, the Doppler broadening component of the peak width was derived. Significant Doppler broadening was observed only in the single escape peak and in the annihilation peak width. Averaged values and their uncertainties useful for modeling each type of peak width in nuclear radiation spectra are presented. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Imprisonment of resonance radiation by atomic absorption of Mn and Zn at 4030.76A and 2138.56A respectively, for a wide range of concentrations between 1 and 5x103ppm in an air-acetylene flame has been investigated. The optical depths tau0-bar, the mean probability values of photon escape theta, and photon capture tau are determined. It is shown that there is certain state of equilibrium between photon escape and capture, where tau0-bar=1, and theta=tau=0.5 which were relevant to 50% of total absorption. The dependence of both tau0-bar and tau on the total number of atoms in ground state Ncm-3 has been found significant. It is found that imprisonment of resonance radiation is negligible at low absorber opacity (tau0-bar<1), while is remarkable at high absorber opacities (tau0-bar>1), and is independent on N at tau0-bar>>1. The significance of imprisonment concept is carefully assessed. (author)
