AbstractAbstract
[en] Nuclear structure data for A = 61 nuclei are compiled, and adopted level properties and decay schemes are presented. The compilation includes data available through April 1975. The compilation contains two sections: level schemes which include the bulk of the data plus adopted level energies and half--lives; and sheets which include more details about individual measurements, additional adopted level properties, and comments regarding inconsistencies found in the literature. AbstractAbstract
[en] New levels have been established above the 861-keV, 9/2+ isomeric state in 61Fe. The observations can be reproduced satisfactorily by shell model calculations, but only after a significant lowering of the νg9/2 single-particle energy with respect to the value determined empirically from levels outside a 48Ca core. The results are also described well within the scope of the particle-triaxial-rotor model assuming a deformation β2 ∼ 0.24. The present findings, together with the recently measured magnetic and quadrupole moments of this state, point toward a structure possibly associated with a prolate shape

AbstractAbstract
[en] Single γ ray, γ-γ coincidence, and level spectrometer studies have been performed on the decay of 61Fe (T/sub 1/2/ = 5.98 plus-or-minus 0.06 min). 48 γ transitions with energies up to 3365 keV are assigned to this decay and 22 levels are proposed in the 61Fe decay scheme. Spins and parities of levels in 61Co are given. The level structure of 61Co is compared with neighboring odd Co nuclei

AbstractAbstract
[en] 60Fe is one of the most interesting radioisotopes found on earth. With an halflife of 1.5 Myr it is sensitive to the younger history of the universe (seen as 60Co decays) and the earth (seen as 60Fe in deep see manganese crusts), but contains basically no pre-solar information. In order to use the observational information in a quantitative manner, production and destruction mechanisms of 60Fe have to be understood. Therefore we measured the neutron capture cross section of 60Fe in the astrophysically interesting energy region applying the activation technique at the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (FZK). The sample material of 1.1*10**16 atoms has been retrieved from a cupper beam stop, which has been irradiated with protons at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI)

AbstractAbstract
[en] 60Fe is of special interest in nuclear astrophysics. Indeed the recent observations of 60Fe characteristic gamma-ray lines by the RHESSI and INTEGRAL spacecrafts allowed to measure the total flux of 60Fe over the Galaxy. Moreover the observation in presolar grains of an excess of the daughter-nuclei of 60Fe, 60Ni, gives constraints on the conditions of formation of the early solar system. However, the cross-sections of some reactions involved in 60Fe nucleosynthesis and included to stellar models are still uncertain. The destruction reaction of 60Fe, 60Fe(n, γ)61Fe, is one of them. The total cross-section can be separate into two contributions: the direct one, involving states below the neutron separation threshold of 61Fe, and the resonant one.We improved 61Fe spectroscopy in order to evaluate the direct capture part of the 60Fe(n, γ)61Fe reaction cross-section. 60Fe(n, γ)61Fe was thus studied via d(60Fe, pγ)61Fe transfer reaction with the CATS/MUST2/EXOGAM setup at LISE-GANIL. DWBA analysis of experimental proton differential cross-sections allowed to extract orbital angular momentum and spectroscopic factors of different populated states identified below the neutron threshold. A comparison of experimental results for 61Fe with experimental results for similar nuclei and with shell-model calculations was also performed. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper demonstrates the feasibility of quadrupole moment measurements on isomeric levels populated in projectile fragmentation reactions. The neutron-rich 61Fe(9/2+) [E*= 861 keV, T1/2= 239(5) ns] isomer was produced and spin aligned by the intermediate energy fragmentation of a 64Ni beam and implanted in a Cd single crystal. Its spectroscopic quadrupole moment |Qs|=41(6) e fm2 agrees with mean-field based calculations using the finite-range Gogny force, suggesting a moderately deformed shape characterized by an intrinsic charge quadrupole moment Q0=-85 e fm2 or Q0=+115 e fm2. The present measurement paves the way for future determinations of isomeric quadrupole moments in more exotic nuclei

AbstractAbstract
[en] An 60Fe target for studying the 60Fe(n, γ)61Fe cross-section at stellar energies was prepared using radio-chemical separation techniques. In total, 7.8x101560Fe atoms (777 ng) were separated from a copper beam dump for the 590 MeV proton beam of the high intensity accelerator at PSI. The final target was prepared by evaporating the iron-containing aqueous solution onto a graphite backing. With this sample the keV neutron capture cross-section of 60Fe has been measured at FZ Karlsruhe. The work is part of the ERAWAST-initiative (Exotic Radionuclides from Accelerator WAste for Science and Technology) which is aimed at extracting rare valuable radionuclides from accelerator waste by chemical means.
