AbstractAbstract
[en] The development programme of the VINCA radiosterilisation centre involves plans for an irradiator capable of working in several ways. Discontinuous operation. The irradiator is loaded for a certain period then runs automatically until the moment of unloading. This method is suitable as long as the treatment capacity is relatively small. Continuous operation with permanent batch loading and unloading carried out either manually or automatically (by means of equipment to be installed later). Otherwise the design of the apparatus is highly conventional. The source is a vertical panel submersible in a pool. The conveyor is of the 'bucket' type, with 4 tiers to each bucket. The batches pass successively through all possible irradiation positions. Transfert into and out of the cell take place through a maze, which also provides access to the cell when the sources are in storage at the bottom of the pool

AbstractAbstract
[en] A conceptual design for a conveyor system is proposed for use in fruit irradiation. The seasonal nature of the fruit harvest requires that the 60Co source inventory should be sufficient to meet the demand at peak season, but this would be excessive at the beginning and towards the end of the harvest. Because of the short crop period the possibility of other irradiation services should be exploited to ensure full utilization of the facility. For successful extension of fruit shelf-life rigid practices in pre-irradiation treatment are essential and careful packaging is indispensable to the operation of the irradiator. Based on the time required for construction and equipment supply, a period of 18 months should be assumed for completion of the project. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] It is proposed to design the irradiation chamber of gamma irradiation facilities in such a way that it can be flooded with water and the exchange of the radiation sources can be effected in the radiation chamber. Charging and discharging is simplified thereby and can be controlled well. It is further proposed to provide tubes as devices for holding the radiation sources in which these will be moved by the pressure of flowing water. (UWI)

(UWI)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] Morocco has an agricultural vocation and its productions are diversified. Besides the production intended for local consumption, a large part is exported to different countries and represents an important income of currency for the country. In spite of the use several food treatment methods: modern and traditional, the loss caused by different parasites remains more than 27% of national production. To reduce this loss and extend the shelf life, it is necessary to opt for food preservation by irradiation. This technique is used in many countries both industrialized and developing with satisfactory results. For this purpose, a decree regulating food irradiation has been elaborated. Before using this process in the industrial field, it is indispensable to start with a 'research' phase. The 'Station Centrale des Radio-Elements', SCRE of the 'Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique', INRA has been charged with achieving this phase and submitted food irradiation project to the IAEA. After several meetings and steps taken by the INRA and the 'Direction de la Protection de Vegetaux, du Controle de Semence et Repression des Fraudes' with the IAEA, the project was approved. The SCRE is presented in this paper. 2 tabs.(F.M.)
