[en] It is known that the efficiency of a detector epsilon(x) is connected to the escape function P(x) by the relation epsilon(x) = xP(x). In this paper, a specific detector is considered (3'' x 3'' NaI), and the results obtained are compared with previously results. (orig.)

[en] At the Whole Body Monitoring Laboratory, from IFIN-HH, Bucharest, Romania, there were performed in vivo gamma-ray spectrometry measurements on 108 Romanian males in order to evaluate the mineral natural potassium content in human body, as total value and concentration. The measurements were performed with a shadow shield whole body counter, tilted chair geometry, based on a shielded NaI(Tl) scintillation detector of 12.5 cm (diameter) x 10 cm (height) crystal size. The results revealed a calculated value of the mean total body potassium (TBK) of 135.03 ± 2.94 g and a value of 1.9 ± 0.022 g of potassium/kg of body weight for the mean body potassium concentration, for the measured males. These values are similar with the values declared for the Reference Man, in ICRP23. Correlations between total body potassium, potassium concentration and age, weight and Body Build Index were investigated and peculiar conclusions were resulted. (author)

[en] Method of well fabrication in NaI(Tl) crystals by lathe machining them in spindle oil is suggested. Results of experiments are generalized. Rotational speed of lathe spindle is 2-3 s^-1, machining speed is (1.5-2.5)x10^-2 cm/c. Fabrication of wells in two BDEhG2-23 detection units that for 9 years have been successfully in operation in scintillation γ-spectrometers with protective anticoincidence scintillators. The detector background is 0.05 c^-1, the detection efficiency 18%, energy resolution for ¹³⁷ Cs was 9.5%. Minimum measurable activity of ¹³⁷Cs is 0.1 Bq

[en] Absolute efficiency of the NaI(Tl) 5 inch x 5 inch counter for a round filter paper was calculated using standard radioactive sources cesium-137, manganese-54 and cobalt-60. The calculated efficiency can be used in determining the activity of the mentioned radioisotopes in the air filtering through the 10.4 cm. diameter filter paper.
