AbstractAbstract
[en] The neutron induced fission cross-section of 241Pu has been measured at an 8 m flightpath of the CBNM Linac (from 50 eV to below thermal energy) with respect to the 10B(n,α)7Li cross section. Several fission integrals were calculated as well as the 20.440C Westcott factor g/sub f/ = 1.046 +- 0.006. Special attention is given to normalization problems. 2 tables, 2 figures

AbstractAbstract
[en] The (n,γf) reaction effect was investigated in the case of the 241Pu fission induced by 2-100eV neutrons. The effect of (n,γf) reaction is important for Jπ=2+ resonances; for Jπ=3+ resonances the effect is weak and masked by experimental errors

AbstractAbstract
[en] Fluctuations from resonance to resonance of the average number of prompt neutrons and of the average gamma ray energy have been measured for the neutron-induced fission of 241Pu in the energy range 4-91eV. The 60MeV linar accelerator of CEN Saclay was used to produce the pulsed beam of incident neutrons, and a large Gd-loaded liquid scintillator to measure simultaneously the average number of prompt neutrons and the average gamma ray energy. Weak anticorrelated fluctuations observed for these two quantities have been attributed to the (n,γf) reaction

AbstractAbstract
[en] The neutron induced compound nuclear cross sections are required for nuclear energy, national security and nuclear astrophysics applications. The renewed interest in nuclear energy has led to design of new reactor systems based on fast neutron induced fission. The transuranic nuclide produced in the nuclear fuel cycles by successive neutron capture, play prominent role in modeling processes that are relevant to generate energy. The fast-neutron induced reactions have also been proposed for the incineration of actinide materials, notably minor actinide isotopes which are produced in Th-U or U-Pu fuel cycles. Unfortunately, for a large number of reactions the relevant data cannot be directly measured in the laboratory, since the relevant nuclei are often too difficult to produce with currently available experimental techniques or too short-lived to serve as target in present day setups

AbstractAbstract
[en] During the past 25 years, a number of investigations on the thermal neutron fission of 235U have been reported but the same is not true in case of 233U, 239Pu and particularly 241Pu. 241Pu is an important fissionable nuclide as it has high thermal neutron fission cross section and is formed in appreciable amounts along with other plutonium isotopes as the fuel is irradiated to high burn-up. This paper presents the mass spectrometric studies on the determination of fission yields in the thermal neutron induced fission of 241Pu. Fission yields for mass numbers 95, 97, 98 and 100 which are important for determining the light mass wing of the mass distribution curve have been determined mass spectrometrically for the first time. Cumulative yields for 24 mass numbers are reported and the data is compared with literature data. (author)
