AbstractAbstract
[en] Many ethnic Russian geologists have lived and worked in Francophone countries. We describe in this paper the life and career of geologists (i.e. all Earth scientists - geologists, mineralogists, tectonicians, geophysicists, geochemists, paleontologists, mining and drilling engineers, hydrogeologists, cosmos - geologists, etc.), regardless of their original nationality (Russians, Ukrainians, Tatars, Germans, etc.) born in the territory of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union or the Russian Federation. AbstractAbstract
[en] The present paper demonstrates that room temperature ionic liquids (RTIL) added at 1-5 wt% to a diphenyl (dibutyl) carbamoylmethylphosphine oxide (Ph2Bu2) solution increase the extraction coefficients of americium from nitric acid by more than two orders of magnitude. Moreover, the use of the RTIL-1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide makes the extraction possible even from 8 M HNO3. This is an important attribute of such extraction system from the point of its possible application for radiochemical analysis of technological samples and environmental solutions, since many methods are based on transferring the solid samples into an 8 M HNO3 solution. The extraction data obtained revealed that three Ph2Bu2 ligands are included into the coordination sphere of americium, two of which represent a compound with the nitrate anion and one with the RTIL anion. AbstractAbstract
[en] As part of the US-Russia Cooperative Program of Material Protection, Control and Accounting, staff members of the Institute of Physics and Power Engineering (IPPE) have implemented procedures for taking physical inventory of nuclear materials at many of the facilities within the IPPE site. These include both large facilities, with substantial inventories and requiring dedicated inventory equipment and computers, and small facilities, with smaller amounts of material and subject to inventory by portable equipment. The experience to date demonstrates good progress toward the goal of regular PITs for the most attractive nuclear materials at IPPE
