AbstractAbstract
[en] In the separation nozzle process, uranium isotope separation is based on the centrifugal forces in a fast curved flow consisting of uranium hexafluoride and a light auxiliary gas. The article covers the basic features and the most important steps in the technological development of the process. Those fundamentals of the separation nozzle method which are largely independent of the shape of the nozzle system will be treated, and the commercial implementation of the process will be described. Finally, guidelines for future development of the method will be summarized. (KBE)

AbstractAbstract
[en] An improvement in the jet isotope separation method is claimed. The step of conducting the mixture through a nozzle into a separating chamber is carried out by distributing the mixture uniformly around the axis of the chamber and feeding it into the chamber from all sides in radial directions along a plane. The step of removing the partial streams includes causing the lightest stream to flow radially out of the separating chamber in a plane approximately parallel to the plane along which the mixture is fed into the chamber

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method is provided for separating gaseous or vaporous substances, especially isotopes, with different molecular weights and/or different gas kinetic cross sections, in which the mixture of substances to be separated is passed through separation nozzles. One or more skimmer diaphragms project into the flow path of the substances and are used to separate and remove fractions of different compositions, and several separation systems consisting of nozzles and skimmer diaphragms are arranged in a cascade. The cascade generates partial streams which contain the mixture of substances to be separated. The partial streams can contain an additional gas with each partial stream containing different fractions of additional gas. When the partial streams generated within the cascade contain different fractions of additional gas, the partial streams are jointly fed to one of the separation nozzle systems in such a way as to generate a molar fraction gradient with respect to the additional gas which is opposed in direction to the molar fraction gradient being generated by the separation process within the nozzle. The partial streams can contain different compositions of the mixture of substances to be separated. When the partial streams generated within the cascade contain different compositions of the mixture of substances to be separated, the partial streams are jointly fed to one of the separation nozzle systems in such a way as to generate a molar fraction ratio with respect to the substances to be separated which is identical in direction with the molar fraction gradient being generated by the separation process within the nozzle. 27 claims, 13 figures

AbstractAbstract
[en] In a method for separating isotopes by jets the mixture to be separated together with a lighter additive gas is conducted into a separating chamber through two slit-shaped nozzles to form two jets. An improvement in this step comprises causing the flow lines of each jet to converge, at least in the region of the outlet opening of each nozzle, at a limiting angle of more than 30 degs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The individual units consisting of separating elements are combined each with their heat exchangers, forming a cascade stage. These cascade stages on the other hand form sections, bounded by diametrically running partition walls in a cylindrical vessel. Below the vessel there are the compressors. The horizontal vessel is carried at the ends by shield or shell-type supports. The cooling performed by means of the heat exchangers is constructionally simplified in such a way that there are applied straight tubes passing through all of the sections, i.e. through the partitions, too. This is why there may be worked with only one single distributing chamber and one single accumulator. (DG)

(DG)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] In order to improve the economy a modification of the separation-nozzle method for isotope separation is proposed. For utilizing the chambers of the separation-nozzle system filled with centrifugal acceleration to a higher degree than before for the separation process, it is proposed to guide the partial flows, generated within the cascade with different portions of additional gas, in a different manner than before or to deflect the partial flows, generated with different compositions of the mixture of substances to be separated, differently. Both variants may also be combined. The individual measures are described in detail and illustrated by 13 drawings. (HP)

(HP)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] A nozzle for adiabatically expanding a gas mixture in separating uranium isotopes and/or compounds of uranium isotopes is claimed. The slot-shaped nozzle is defined by two nozzle walls. These are symmetrically disposed on either side of a plane of symmetry passing through the nozzle. Insulation means which reduces heat transfer from the nozzle to a gas mixture passing through the nozzle is disposed adjacent sides of the nozzle walls remote from the nozzle
