AbstractAbstract
[en] The fragmentation of E/A=40 MeV 20Ne projectiles into exit channels containing only p, d, t, 3He, α,6He, 6Li, and 7Li fragments has been investigated. Relative shifts between the average longitudinal velocity of each fragment type were measured with 120Sn and 197Au targets. A post-breakup Coulomb acceleration component of these shifts was isolated. Its magnitude indicates that the projectile broke up while in near contact with the target. On the other hand, correlations between projectile fragments indicate that a significant fraction of these fragments are produced by the sequential decay of long- and short-lived unstable intermediates. A fully sequential decay process, although consistent with the experimental relative angle distributions, fails to reproduce the correlation function. Thus, a picture emerges of a prompt breakup step producing stable and unstable particles with the subsequent decay of the latter extending over a long time period

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recent interest in the low energy heavy ion reactions is focussed towards the understanding of the reaction mechanism in the framework of the coupled channel formalism. A measurement has been performed to extract the barrier distribution for the system 28Si+120Sn using the above technique

AbstractAbstract
[en] The level structure of 129Ba has been studied by the 120Sn(12C,3nγ) reaction. A set of negative-parity levels based upon a 9/2- state is interpreted in terms of the rotation-alignment coupling of hsub(11/2) neutron holes to the triaxial core. A new band structure built upon a 7/2+ state is also observed. It could be due to the coupling of a gsub(7/2) neutron hole to the triaxial core

AbstractAbstract
[en] Unresolved ν radiation precedings the decay of the Isup(π) = 10+ isomer in 144Gd has been studied via the 120Sn + 28Si reaction using a large NaI detector. The ν-ray multiplicity and anisotropy have been measured for 2 <= E <= 18 MeV. At energies above 8 MeV a broad shoulder, presumably arising from the giant dipole resonance, is observed on top of the statistical tail. These high-energy ν rays are shown to deexcite high spin states and have a nearly isotropic angular distribution. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Using a high-resolution Ge(Li) total energy spectrometer, the elastic-scattering differential cross sections of 100 MeV protons from 58Ni, 90Zr, 120Sn, 208Pb have been measured to large angles (about 700 lab and 1300 lab in the case of 58Ni). Cross sections as low as 10-31 cm2/sr were measured. Optical-model analysis of the experimental data has been carried out. With the exception of 58Ni, high quality fits (chi2/N approximately 1.5) were obtained. The parameter sensitivity to the overall absolute normalization and beam uncertainty has been investigated. The data show preference for volume absorption and a need for an imaginary spin-orbit interaction term. The isospin dependence of the real central potential was extracted. In the case of the 58Ni target neither incorporation of the imaginary spin-orbit interaction nor exchange effects have improved the quality of the fit (chi2/N approximately 14). This may indicate that the large angle cross sections on 58Ni are sensitive to features which are not incorporated in the conventional parameterization of the potential

AbstractAbstract
[en] The main objective of this paper is to utilize the CNI effects for quantitative assessments of these structural parameters for 0+g.s→ 2+1 (1.17 MeV) and 0+g.s→ 3-1 (2.40 MeV) transitions in 120Sn nucleus with 12C as probe at Elab = 60 MeV and compare the results with those obtained with a weakly bound probe at similar E/VB
