AbstractAbstract
[en] The reasons for the high-melting compound brittleness have been analyzed. Reference is made of the new data on the thermal strength and creep of carbide-, oxide- and boride-based materials. Highlighted is the post-irradiation increased thermal strength and the non-monotonous variation of the creep rate in the homogeneity region of the transition metal carbides

AbstractAbstract
[en] The effect of sintering conditions such as temperature, time and various media on density, electric resistance, grain size and strength is discussed in the instance of zirconium carbide. The effect of sintering temperature on the non-steady dependence of density is considered in terms of the role of grain boundaries and gas pressure in the pores. The effect of grain size and porosity on strength and electric resistance is analyzed

AbstractAbstract
[en] The phase composition of alloys Zr-(20-60)%H after various heat treatment, the mechanism of formation of the γ-phase, and its composition were investigated. The alloy ZrH with tritium introduced into it was studied by means of autoradiography, metallography and measurement of its microhardness. The compositions of the α, γ and sigma-phases were established. It is shown that the γ-phase is stable at temperatures below 255 deg C in the concentration range studied. A suggestion is made as to the mechanism of formation of the γ-phase consisting of two successive acts: diffusion redistribution of hydrogen, which causes the appearance of internal stresses, and shear, which realizes the accumulated energy into twins

AbstractAbstract
[en] Structure formation process is traced on thin arc sprayed films of Ti, Zr, Nb and Cr nitrides. The fuilms from all studied nitrides with thickness less than 30 nm have (111) texture. With ZrN and NbN film thickness growth a tendency to disorientation is observed. Multilayer condensates consisting of ZrN, NbN or CrN with TiN interlayers are studied. Condensates microhardness increases with increase of interphase boundaries number

AbstractAbstract
[en] The variation patterns of the electrical resistance and magnetic susceptibility of zirconium and vanadium hydrides are considered, the variations being due to the occurrence of defects in the crystal lattice under the effect of neutron irradiation. The relationships between the above properties and hydrogen concentration and temperature, before and after irradiation, are presented. It is assumed that, as more defects appear in zirconium and vanadium hydrides, their magnetic susceptibility changes under the effect of two competing processes: variations in the electronic energy structure parameters in the defect area and capture of hydrogen atoms by a metallic sublattice defect with subsequent formation of molecular hydrogen in the nucleus of this defect. The examined variation patterns of the magnetic properties of zirconium and vanadium hydrides are predominant both in the case of irradiation by particles of various types (neutrons, electrons, protons) and in the case of plastic deformation, i.e. the susceptibility of the hydrides to radiation damage is dependent but to an insignificant degree on the way in which crystal structure defects occur

AbstractAbstract
[en] A method of producing sintered products based on high-melting materials is described. To improve the ductility of hafnium carbide powder in pressure treatment and to simplify the technology of manufacturing compact products, 3-25 wt.% vanadium carbide is added to the powder before hot extrusion; after hot extrusion an additional pressure treatment is applied, following which the vanadium carbide is removed from the product by thermal processing at 2600-28000C
