[en] The objective of radioactive waste management during the RA reactor decommissioning is to deal with radioactive waste in a manner that protects human health and the environment now and in the future. [en] Experience gained in the Vinca Institute in Monte Carlo numerical simulations of ambient dose equivalent rate of gamma-rays from 200 L storage cask with conditioned sludge contaminated by 137Cs and 60Co nuclides is used for estimation of application of the same conditioning process and storage of contaminated resins, considered to be used for purification of water in the spent fuel storage pool of the RA research reactor. [en] Spent nuclear fuel discharged from nuclear power plants is the main problem during design of radioactive waste disposal. Most of the hazard stems from only a few chemical elements. The radiotoxicity of these elements can be efficiently reduced using partitioning and transmutation in fast reactors and accelerator driven subcritical systems. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The characterisation of radioactive waste is one of crucial steps in waste management. One of possible methods includes combination of Monte Carlo simulations and gamma spectrometry measurements. Such sophisticated methods have been broadly used in commercial installations for characterisation of radioactive waste. This paper deals with the problem of radiation shielding optimisation in case of storing of radioactive lighting roads. In this paper Monte Carlo codes FOTELP (Vinca Institute, Serbia and Montenegro) and EGSnrc (NRCC, Canada) were applied for shielding calculation, in case of radioactive waste put in standard 200 litre drum, and filled with concrete and lead. AbstractAbstract
[en] The dose rate distributions of photon fields for calibrating personal dosemeters are measured free-in-air and in front of the PMMA and water phantoms. The backscatter factors and relative inhomogeneity of photon fields at both of phantoms are compared. From radiation protection aspect, for the hospital staff at Roentgen diagnostics, we have discussed the preferences and defects on the occasion of use for everyone of phantoms separately. It turned out that in to give the objective opinion for occupational health, we have to consider to the positioning of the personnel dosemeter during their calibration in photon fields X-ray apparatus of the Standard Dosimetry Laboratory.
