Management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) in Industry. Proceedings of an International Conference. Supplementary Files2022
AbstractAbstract
[en] Regulator body who has supervisory and regulations competence in the planed exposition situation for NORM materials is in the Czech Republic is State Office for Nuclear Safety as a central government body. The regulation by Act No. 263/2016 Coll., The Atomic Act (“Act”) defines radiation protection in the workplace with potentially increased exposure to natural radiation sources of ionizing radiation in the Czech Republic. This Act introduced new requirements of radiation protection of NORM workplace and conditions for the discharge of radioactive substances from this NORM workplace. Details are in Decree No. 422/2016 Coll., On Radiation Protection and the Security of Radionuclide Source and in the Guideline (“Decree”), which includes methodologies describing the measurement procedures, which will generate a reliable and comparable basis for the assessment of exposure to natural radiation sources and the calculation of effective dose. The information on the poster will list workplaces of NORM, regulations, NORM material, values of clearance levels for workplaces with potentially increased exposure to a natural source of radiation and conditions under which they considered as exceeded. At the end of the poster, will challenge for the future. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] SUJB has been dealing with the issue of radon in schools and school facilities for a long time. As part of the Radon Program of the Czech Republic, a significant number of schools have been measured so far. Owners and operators of schools and school facilities were regularly encouraged to measure radon and to implement protective measures, if these were justified. Such measures may not be expensive, but they can still be very effective. The measurements were voluntary and appealed to a healthy working environment for employees and pupils. Irradiation regulation was not binding from the point of view of the workplace / workers. The poster will also include a block diagram of exposure control of school employees and school facilities in the Czech Republic and current results of measurements and adopted anti-radon measures. Proceedings of the 18. Stiavnica Days 2017 - Presentations and Posters2017
AbstractAbstract
[en] The RAMARN system, produced by the National Institute for Nuclear Chemical and Biological Protection, is designed for the time integral determination of radon concentration. During it production, the properties of the solid state nuclear track detector with sensitive layer Kodak LR 115 were used. This detector is placed in a polypropylene diffusion chamber and exposed for 2 to 14 months. During exposure, the polymeric cellulose nitrate, which forms a sensitive layer of the detector through the alpha particles, is being damaged. The damage is visualized by etching in aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. After the etching, the damage is seen as white tracks in the red background. In the process of evaluation, the determination of the number of tracks per unit area is determined using a conversion factor established by cooperation with the Authorized Metrology Center K 113 for the radon concentration and equilibrium equivalent radon concentration calibration. The systems are regularly verified by the Authorized Metrology Center. The RAMARN systems are also involved in interlaboratory comparative measurements abroad. The easy construction and high reliability of the systems allowed their use in the Radon Program of the Czech Republic. The Radon Program of the Czech Republic from 2010 to 2019 - The Action Plan builds on the results of the Radon Program of the Czech Republic, which was approved for the period from 2000 to 2009 by Government Resolution No. 538 of 31 May 1999, supplemented by Government Resolution No. 970 of 7 October 2002. It was prepared in accordance with the valid legal regulation of the Czech Republic in the field of radiation protection and took into account the current trends in the EU member states. The Czech Action Plan includes an Intelligence Strategy, anti-radon prevention, regulation of the existing radon exposure and Expert scientific and technical support to achieve the goals of the Action plan. More than 110,000 RAMARN systems, of which the majority was used to search for objects with elevated radon concentration, were used to implement the anti-radon prevention strategy and regulation of the existing radon exposure. RAMARN systems are also used to determine the concentration of radon in school buildings. Kindergartens that have been professionally measured and comply with valid regulations of radon concentration in dormitory rooms are marked with a sticker labeled 'Radon - free Kindergarten'. Information on the Radon Program can be found on the Internet at www.radonovyprogram.cz. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] In December 2017, the International Commission for Radiation Protection published new dose conversion factors (hereinafter referred to as 'DCF') for calculating the (effective) dose of workers from inhalation of radon transformation products (222Rn and 220Rn) ICRP -137, 2017 - Occupational Intakes of Radionuclides: Part 3. 137. The lecture will present the assessment procedure that took place according to the 'Educational Manual for Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA)' issued by the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic in 2017, the adoption of the DCK in the Czech Republic and the method of subsequent implementation of the DFK into the relevant legal regulations of the Czech Republic. Multicriteria analysis (hereafter referred to as 'MCA') was chosen for impact evaluation. The essence of the method is to find a variant with an optimal combination of the degree of fulfillment of individual relevant criteria while taking into account their importance. The weight of the criterion represents the coefficient of its importance, i.e. the numerical expression of its relative importance in comparison with other criteria. The more importance a criterion is given, the higher its weight must be. (authors)
