AbstractAbstract
[en] Two new experiments in relativistic heavy ion physics are described briefly. CERN experiment and physical program for such a project are described. 16O beam was accelerated to the energy of about 13 GeV in the CERN PS and was directed into two detectors: a Plastic Ball+Plastic Wall system and a streamer chamber in a magnetic field. Two parts of such experiment with two separate detectors, are intended to cover areas of physical interest: target fragmentation region will be covered by the Plastic Ball, and selected features of produced hadrons will be studied in detail by the streamer chamber. A brief description of the Saclay experiment is given. More improved experiment is in the design stage. At the Saturne accelerator in Saclay a so-called Diogene project is carried out. Diogene is a 4π detector based an a Time Projection Chamber (TPC) designed to measure charged particles emitted in central collisions of relativistic heavy ion. Pions, protons, deuterons and tritons can be identified. The possibility of extension of relativistic heavy ion physics program at JINR are described

AbstractAbstract
[en] This is a very brief report on some of the results obtained at the JIMR Laboratory of High Energy in Dubna, in one of the experiments studying nucleus-nucleus collisions at relatively high energies. The detector consisted of a propane bubble chamber with thin metalic plates made of 181Ta mounted inside. At energy 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon there were four beams available: protons, deuterons, alpha particles and carbon ions 12C. The following results, based on the statistics of about 500 to 1500 interactions per beam and per target are already available: (1) The dependence of the dispersion of multiplicity of produced particles on the average sultiplicity. (2) The relation between the average number of interacting beam nucleons and the multiplicity of produced particles. (3) Emissions of fast protons. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Experimental data on hadron-nucleus interactions in the energy range from AGS to SPS are reviewed. Emphasis is put on a comparison with both hadron-hadron and nucleus-nucleus collisions data. Arguments for an extension of hadron-nucleus collision programme in to the RHIC domain are given. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The results are briefly described of three experiments on the Dubna synchrophasotron which accelerated deuterium, helium, and carbon ions to energies of up to about 50 GeV or 4.5 GeV per nucleon. Secondary particles were detected by track detectors each consisting of nuclear emulsion, a 2 m streamer chamber with thin metallic targets inside and a 2 m propane bubble chamber with heavy metal plates inside. Preliminary results are reported of the probability for the production of a given number of pions minus as a function of the average pion minus multiplicity for hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus and alfa-nucleus collisions, and the average number of pions minus produced in nucleus-target interactions, normalized to the same average proton-target interactions as a functions of average number of participating nucleus from the beam. AbstractAbstract
[en] A concise review of recent results from CERN experiments with relativistic ion beams, from oxygen and sulphur up to lead, at 160 and 200 GeV/c/N, is presented. Both leptonic and hadronic signals are reviewed. Two results from leptonic signals look very promising. One is an excess (over conventional expectations) in the invariant mass spectrum of electron pairs produced in nuclear collisions, for masses up to 1.5 GeV. Another is a strong psi resonance suppression, observed in central lead-lead collisions. These effects could possibly indicate the importance of partonic degrees of freedom, and may be a harbinger of the quark-gluon plasma creation. The hadronic signals concern the nuclear stopping power, transverse mass spectra and their relation to temperature, strange particle production and particle source sizes, as determined by the interferometric method.
