AbstractAbstract
[en] The angular distributions of the analysing power and the relative cross-sections for the elastic scattering of polarized 3He nuclei by 2H have been measured at incident 3He energies of 22.5, 24, 27, 30 and 33 MeV. The data, considered in terms of fitted Legendre polynomials, clearly show a structure near 30 MeV 3He energy which is more striking for odd L coefficients. In addition, our data, along with other data on the differential cross sections and on the analysing power for the scattering of polarized 2H, have been analysed for the phase shifts and mixing parameters in the S-matrix description. The phase shifts selected are compared with those from resonating-group theory calculations. The prominent residual differences were attributed to further resonances which involve the formation of 5Li nuclei at high excitation energy. Finally a level scheme is compared with the predictions of a multi-particle, multi-shell model calculation

AbstractAbstract
[en] Angular distributions of the 3He analysing power and differential cross section were measured for the 2H(3He, 4He)1H reaction at incident 3He lab energies of 27 and 33 MeV. Analysis of this and other data suggest the presence of a broad resonance, or resonances, around 28 MeV excitation in 5Li. The evidence for the dominant M-matrix elements involving a change in channel spin (i.e. the ΔS = -1 rule) is examined and also the question is investigated as to whether the data can be consistently explained without requiring tensor forces in the interaction. AbstractAbstract
[en] It has been established in numerous experimental studies that nuclear deformation plays an important role in heavy ion interactions. One of the most direct methods to investigate these effects is an application of polarized beams where the spin and thereby the mass alignment can be chosen at the source. The present experiment was performed with beams of tensor and vector polarized 23Na interacting with the 208Pb target at 170 and 196 MeV to study the four analysing powers in quasi-elastic and reaction channels. AbstractAbstract
[en] The total cross section for the 24Mg(α,n)27Si reaction was determined in 10 keV energy steps from threshold to 13.1 MeV incident energy using the activation method. Variations observed in the cross section were interpreted using fluctuation theory with two notable results: firstly, that GAMMA, the average width of the observed fluctuations, does not vary at the rate expected over the energy range measured, and secondly that the majority of this reaction goes by a direct mechanism. This latter result was also found for the 27Al(p,n)27Si reaction after a reanalysis of published data. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The data for differential cross sections and transverse tensor analysing powers in scattering of polarized 23Na from 208Pb at 170 MeV were obtained for the ground, first and second excited states of 23Na. The extracted data were analysed on the basis of the tidal symmetry model and the adiabatic approximation. By comparing these results with the exact coupled channel calculations and the measured data, the validity of tidal symmetry model is discussed. 4 figs., 1 tab., 8 refs. (author)

[en] The spin-spin correlation parameter T1111+Tsub(1-111) has been measured at 740, 1090 and 1280 (c.m.) using a 12 MeV vector polarized deuteron beam and a polarized proton target. The analysis demonstrates that these data can be used to differentiate between the magnitudes of the quartet-doublet splitting employed in a number of models of d-p elastic scattering. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Differential cross sections for the 12C(t, α)11B reaction at 33 MeV have been measured and analysed for the transition to the 0.0, 2.125, 4.445, 5.021, 6.743, 7.286, 7.978 and 8.559 MeV states in 11B. The results of CRC (coupled reaction channels) calculations are compared with DWBA (distorted wave Born approximation) and CCBA (coupled channels Born approximation) calculations for the single-step and two-step transitions respectively. The CRC calculations resulted in improved agreement with the experimental data for the strong transitions. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The differential cross section, vector analysing power and three components of the second-rank tensor analysing power were measured for quasi-elastic scattering of 170 MeV 23Na from 208Pb. The data have been successfully interpreted in terms of the tidal symmetry model and the sign and magnitude of the observed polarisation effects are in good agreement with the known quadrupole moment of 23Na.
